General Discussion / Re: The NEXT Cincy BattleTech campaign...

Due to my erratic availability, I would like to permanently NPC for the next round of games. I'm also not sure anyone would want a force I built on their side considering my hate for PPCs and lack of Mech identification skills...  ;)

I have gotten Arthur squared away so I will be attending this week.
Brent will be missing due to the work situation.

I read the one-page primer, but I need to understand the special abilities and how they work. Where can I find this?

Natalie will now be Piloting a heavily modified Excalibur, classified as Excalibur EXC-B8b 'Zooey'. Rob, the sheet is emailed to you for your approval.

I will take the Hyper-Extending Actuators (1 Point) mech quirk. If for some reason  you allow me to purchase another to bring me to 2 total points, the second quirk will be Improved Cooling Jacket (1 Point) on the large laser.

Natalie will also be spending 150 XP on the Jumping Jack SPA.

Yes, your specialization would be cavern/mountains.

I think we may need to convene today to discuss where we want to go long-term. I'm not in love with the idea of staying in Denver, especially since I have a notoriety issue to work around in PCC.
However, even if we are staying short-term, picking up a property over by the university or by the Coors brewery makes sense for now. I'm not in favor of setting up shop permanently in PCC - too many chances to get picked up at a Stuffer Shack. Also, most of our real SINs are CAS - makes sense to be where we can operate with the most freedom and avoid unnecessary border crossings.

I won't be able to make it this week. Brent will have my character and can run her for me.

BACKGROUND:  Natalie Smythe was born on Terra itself, but her father, a Star League functionary, took a position as a Star League representative on a planet on the edge of Davion space when she was only 4. She grew up in Davion territory, attended Davion schools, but joined the SLDF as soon as she was able and swore she would never come back. However, because of her upbringing and skills, she was soon sent back into Federated Suns territory as part of a special detachment. When the Amaris coup happened, she joined the SLDF remnants close by and has spent her time since learning sensor operations, watching the commanders work out a strategy, and keeping herself from killing overenthusiastic Davion volunteers.

XP Spent since creation, in order:
Sensor Operations +1  - 30 XP
Sensor Operations +2 - 40 XP
Stealth +1 - 30 XP
Strategy +1 - 30 XP
Strategy +2 - 40 XP
Willpower, 2 to 3 - 100 XP
Cryptography +1 - 30 XP

The Griffin will work fine. Let's leave the weapons as is for now - we don't have a lot of time and can worry about it later if we need to switch.

You can use physical strength to increase the damage of Class B and Class C (except the sling) weapons per the optional rules. Class A weapons and the sling receive the damage bump at 4 and 8 per the optional rules.

You can raise abilities at any time between sessions. Feel free to raise perception.

General Discussion / Re: Couple Origins Questions
« on: June 01, 2011, 05:24:35 PM »
Generally, you can't do any trading, etc. in the exhibit hall. Brent and I normally leave at least a couple of hours to wander through the exhibit hall - there are often board game demos and other booths where we want to spend some time.
Last year, Origins was pretty disappointing all around - if you are going to go to only one con, it should be GenCon.
That being said, the $5 day pass for the exhibit hall is a pretty good deal and can make for a fun day. If you are going on Saturday, plan to get there early because the lines can be vicious.

Alpha Omega / Re: House Rule Discussion: Sniping Rule
« on: May 21, 2011, 09:41:28 PM »
I would go with adding your SPL in damage and armor not applying. The reason to snipe is to hit a place with no armor, and a place that's less resistant to damage. This rule would simulate your ability to place a shot that scales with your ability with the weapon. Someone with only one rank in rifles shouldn't get the same advantages as someone who has invested a lot of resources in the skill. This combination should be deadly enough without leading to a "save against death." I am highly suspicious of any "save or die" situation.

I would go with all ones a critical failure and all the top number on the dice a critical success - I like for them to be fairly rare so they feel really epic. With rare ones like that though, critical successes and failures should be epic when they do occur.
