General Discussion / Re: Historical Wargaming, System Discussion

For 28mm WWII Skirmish Games, I think Battleground WWII does a very good job with infantry combat without becoming overly burdened down by rules.  The vehicle rules for it are a bit complicated, but if we're only going to have a few tanks/halftracks on table at a time, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, although its been awhile since I've played Bolt Action, both times I tried it out I remember being fairly lukewarm about it.  Its always seemed a bit too 40k-ish for me.

General Discussion / Re: Conjurer mini - what happened?
« on: January 16, 2016, 02:30:43 AM »
After the unseen lawsuit debacle originally went down, FASA decided to purge all out of house mech designs as a precautionary measure.  As a result, a second wave of unseen were created that includes the TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs as well as the three ComGuard mechs from the ComStar sourcebook.  The non-macross inspired TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs (including the Conjurer) as well as the ComStar sourcebook mechs eventually got reseen artwork in TRO: 3055 Upgrade while the macross inspired TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs got reseen artwork in TRO: 3085.  IWM's minis are of the reseen versions.  In the case of the Conjurer, the IWM mini depicts the reseen Conjurer 2, which features an ATM-9 and two medium pulse lasers.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Found this over on the Battetech Forums. For those that might be inclined to help but don't need the books, here is a link to help out a brother.

I know it is Christmas, but any amount will help out.
Hope you don't mind Dan. Good luck and hope you have a good Christmas.

Thanks for sharing that link Phil.

I have a few questions about some of the items.  What edition of the Periphery sourcebook do you have?  Also, is your list referring to the original House Marik sourcebook (as opposed to the more recent Handbook: House Marik)?  Lastly, I'm pretty drained on funds right now due to Christmas, so they're probably out of my price range, but what price were you generally looking for for the Star League and Wolfs Dragoons book?

John/Drew: could you please let Adam know that his commission will be delayed?  I'd send an email, but Yahoo is down right now.

I just sent him a text.

Since there's a desire for a Clan campaign, I'm actually seriously considering bringing this general concept back.  I've had some time to think about what went wrong and what worked with it, and I've got a revision 6 ruleset that I've been working on, on and off for a few years now.

If - IF - I were to do it, it would either end up being set sometime prior to REVIVAL (3030-ish), or as modern Clan forces in the Dark Age.  The big change are:
1) Everyone runs their own force (with a cool PC commander)
2) Players are randomly paired against each other each game
3) Players bid against the other person in the pair, loser plays OPFOR
4) EVERYBODY plays the same scenario (as in, each pair of players)
5) The highest VP-scoring player decides where the campaign branches to next
6) Between games is Warchest-style maintenance/logistics

That sounds like a really cool campaign idea.  It makes me wish I was still in Ohio.

General Discussion / Re: Alpha Strike in Con "Feature Game"
« on: August 06, 2015, 01:52:26 PM »
Integrating the Alpha Strike table into the feature game somehow would be a good way to help drive some interest in Alpha Strike.  However I prefer Battletech to Alpha Strike, so I certainly don't want to see an Alpha Strike feature game replace the Battletech feature game.

As Rob indicated, I can't make it on the 22nd due to moving back to West Virginia that day.  Good luck smashing up some Regulans OPFOR players.

At least, the beta version, and some softback copies at GenCon.

Steve, heads-up.  LAMs got CHANGED.  Specifically while in AirMech mode:

1) They no longer get a TMM when shot at.  They gain an automatic +1, plus use ASF-style angle of attack modifiers (+1/+2/+0), and have the option to use ASF-style Evasive movement (+3 to be hit, +3 to hit).
2) They use their own table to determine AMM when shooting.  Using AirMech Cruise MP is a +3, using AirMech Flank MP is a +4.

Oh, and you're the guy in the example text.  Congrats.

I really dislike that first change.  It seems like an excessive nerf and using the Aerospace getting shot at rules for a unit that moves on ground mapsheets and that doesn't expend thrust points just seems needlessly confusing.

2015 Oneshot Series / Re: July 18th Game
« on: July 15, 2015, 05:53:25 PM »
Like Drew said, things didn't work out and we felt like we wouldn't be able to produce a scenario to the level of quality expected by this Saturday.  As we do need to get in at least some practice before facing down the Canadians at GenCon, this also seemed like a fairly safe weekend to cancel as the idea of running lance games on the 18th had already been suggested.  I'll be bringing some minis and mapsheets this Saturday, so whoever wants to show up and run some practice games for GenCon can do so.

so we are doing a scneario

No one has told me anything to the contrary, so I'm going to continue prepping a scenario for Saturday at least.

I'll get the scenario for the 18th posted on either Monday or Tuesday.  Sorry about the last minute nature of all of this.

Well a failed sump pump has resulted in most of my mapsheet collection suffering water damage, so depending on how well things dry out I may need to borrow some mapsheets for this as well.

Drew and I are looking for a place to room if you still have two slots open.
