General Discussion / Minis for sale
« on: June 24, 2018, 07:36:12 PM »
So continuing my mad dash to save 100 lbs while moving, my btexh collection is up for grabs.  It's roughly 60 built and unbuilt mechs and various bits, +intro box mechs, a few tanks, and battle armor out the wazoo. There are no unseen, but there are some con specials in there.

Kinda hoping for 200 for this.

General Discussion / Purging some books
« on: June 04, 2018, 03:14:22 PM »
Hi All
I'm purging some of my btech books.  Is anyone interested in any novels, or mostly catalyst era books?  If so I can sort out a list of what I've got.

Just curious if anyone is going to be going to this.  Looks like there will be a BA tournament, FoW, Warmahordes, naval and SAGA historicals, all kinds of stuff.

Also generic thread for scheduling!

Historical Wargaming / Naval historicals
« on: September 23, 2016, 11:51:59 AM »
I'm getting back into playing world of warships on the computer.  Between that and some of the really pretty ships that have been popping up on 4chan (thanks Rob) I've started looking at what's out there for naval games.  I think at least a few of you collect and play, what scales do you focus on and do you have any favorite systems?

Historical Wargaming / Germans in Italy platoon
« on: September 08, 2016, 01:42:37 PM »
Looking at doing a 3. or 15. Panzergrenadier (PzG) Division defense of Italy in '43 or '44 list for my first go round with Bolt Action.  Both of these units were used as 'fire brigades', patching holes and shoring up lines in the major defenses across Italy.  Both also went on to fight in Western Europe, so it's a good springboard to that in later war periods, while still being basic rifle squads at this time.

List ideas:
The 'standard on paper' PzG squad at this point would be an NCO with a SMG, 5 riflemen in a maneuver section, and 2 LMGs and loaders in a machine gun section, piled into a halftrack.
There are a few issues already, using the The Defense of Italy theater selector uses squads that cannot take 2 LMGs at a time, so will probably be either short staffing the required squad or otherwise fluffing a reason the two required Grenadier squads are missing a machine gun.  Also, the PzG regiments in this division did not seem to be mechanized in half-tracks, so going to try to steer clear from too many of them in the list. The panzerfaust and Shrek had both made appearances by now, but I'm not sure in how much density they should be deployed.  I'm also leaning towards having the platoon represent one of the Panzer  Aufklärungskompanie (reconnaissance companies) or having them be in support of the main platoon at least.  I'm not sure how much 'mixing' of groups there would have been, or if on the fly kampfgruppen were a thing that would explain several things being lumped together.

Things I am learning:
Germans are apparently tinkergnomes and do not appreciate the space-bar.
I do not know Wehrmacht ranks.

Historical Wargaming / Scale Comparisons
« on: September 02, 2016, 08:57:20 PM »
So one of the "fun" parts of having multiple manufacturers of minis is that each may be labled 28mm or 1:56 or 1:48, but theres variation within for chunkyness, 'heroicness', true proportions, etc.
Here are comparison shots of the Perry Plastic Afrika Corps minis vs the standard Boltaction guys.  There's definitely a bit more heft to the Warlord branded minis, or the Afrika Corps missed a meal somewhere.

Related, here are several 1:48 scale vees.  The halftrack and armored car are both Taimya.  The panzer 4 is one of the Revell snaptight 'toy' model.  The tank is very chunky to the point of being mistaken for a Tiger, but the Taimya kits dont seem too bad.

Just something to keep an eye out for if you're worried about having everyone in your unit match up completely.

Minis Board / Weapon conversion WIP
« on: March 09, 2016, 05:57:22 PM »
So a random question.  Does anyone know a model line with big 2 handed katana/no-datchi in 28mm heroic or 32mm?  Trying to sort out some options for some warmachine guys.  Sci-fi or fantasy riffs on them may work as well.  Any ideas?

Minis Board / Ice Hellion Beta Galaxy Trinary
« on: January 18, 2016, 01:41:25 PM »
First mini done up for the scheme, an Ice Ferret.

Beta galaxy description from camospecs: "'Mechs are painted in a fade pattern of blue, from dark blue (almost black) at the feet up to light blue (almost white) at the head. 'Mechs are then covered head-to-toe in a speckled white pattern made to resemble a snow storm."

Need to figure out a better way of doing the speckles, the smallest brush i have seems to still be a bit chunkier than I care for.

Contrast got a little wonky on the bottom pic.

2015 Oneshot Series / November 14 Game: Black Ryan
« on: November 03, 2015, 08:19:00 PM »
Black Ryan
July 20, 3079
Tibidee, Blake Protectorate

After the initial landings on Tibidee, a force was dispatched to take the Ryan Ice Cartel ship that was sitting in orbit.  The ice ship was a relic of the ancient terraforming efforts on the world.  The Word of Blake had previously fortified it, and were using it as a space defense platform to run raids against the invasion fleet.  Due to the proximity of the icy rock to the planet, any attempts to destroy it outright would rain destruction down on the planet below.  Forces were drawn up to attempt a hazardous invasion to steal the base away from its Blakist defenders.

The defenses of the asteroid base were concentrated around the top of the roughly rectangular ice block, where the space base facilities were located.  Due to the amount of fire coming from the roof, the alliance forces were forced to skirt around and land on the far side of the base, shielded from the worst of the planetoid’s defenses.  As the defenders realized the scope of the forces arrayed against both them and the planet, the Precentor vowed to make the fight as costly as possible, and set the vast ship on a deorbital burn.

Will the Alliance be able to stop the ship in time?!?

WIP Gao Rael Sniper, proof of concept for the color scheme, and first infinity mini to full completion.
Most of the way there, need to figure out the gun and base it, but wanted pics of it before I dripped glue on it or something.

I know we have a bunch of hockey fans in this bunch.  Would there be any interest in doing a fantasy league?
