Title: 29 December and 12 Jan
Post by: Darrian Wolffe on December 20, 2010, 12:01:58 AM
There's no SR those weeks because we're holding on Brett and Mike being available again.  However, there was some noise about playing a 1-off those weeks, just to keep the group getting together.  I think Rob Jordan called GM it first (Brent gets the next one).  So - what are we playing and are we playing this upcoming week?

I was plotting on running some d20 Call of Cthulhu, since I have a couple really good adventures and that game requires no rules learning on all our parts. That said, if Mr. Brent would like to run his thing first I can snag a book for something I've always wanted to run and take the next time we get some off-Shadowrun time.

I can run the module on the 29th, I just need to dig out my notes. Bring tons of d4 d6 and d8s.

Did everyone want to use the template PCs included or did you wish to generate your own?

The setting is 20 minutes into the future after the end. Essentially the world ends in 2012 with a bunch of natural disasters and WW3. The former soviet republics press the button when the unchecked natural disasters started thinking it was an attack from the US, we launched back. After the dust settled everyone started to rebuild, that's when the meteor showers started. Fifty years later, aliens that resemble mythological angels/demons came back.

Technology hasn't radically advanced, cybernetics are common and wireless AR is standard in major metro areas only. Most ranged weapons are ballistic. There is no magic, there is "science" based magic-like effects know as wielding. The wielding mechanics are a more rules oriented version of White Wolf's Mage the Twinkening.

OK, then we'll run Brent's game on the 29th, bleeding over to the 12th if needed.  Brent, what's the "name" of your game and what houserules/power level would you like to start with?  I was planning on hitting up a PDF of the game (or at least a QSR) and looking over it during the holidays.

Alpha Omega is the name of the game setting. Technically it's the "six cycle six" rule system.

www.alphaomegathegame.com has QSR and overpriced PDFs. Drivethru RPG has the PDf for around $5 usually. All I request is that players keep their noses out of the Milk Run adventure. Starting CDP is 500. I allow an extra 1000 Trust for starting gear, the canon 2500 isn't enough.

edit:  The official module name is "It's A Milk Run...Honestly."

I suggest at least two combat specialists, a medic, an offensive wielder and someone with tech skills.  It's a skill based system so that's possible.  I recommend light armor (at least) and a ranged weapon of some sort for all PCs.  The system favors melee PCs at most tables, not at mine since you have to survive to close to melee range and that's not happening against anyone with a firearm.

Are we assumed to know any languages by default?  At least speaking the language where we grew up?

EDIT: Also, you aren't kidding about the money thing.  The prices vis a vis starting money are retarded.  I'd almost put starting cash between 4-5 grand; after light armor, basic equipment (backpack, tent, comm device, p-comm), and a single melee weapon and an extra-cheap SMG, I'm at 3388 T spent and having dropped a pocket medkit and H2O purifier from the list.  Blah.  I think they typo'd it from 4500 to 2500...

EDIT2:  Fuck. And that's with no ammo.   >:(

I forgot how rawtarded the starting cash is. Take it to 4500.

In the first session I ever ran, Brett's PC fought the first battle wearing a battle-thong since she couldn't afford armor. One of the bodies happened to be wearing light armor in her size.

Assume English as a default language, give me a story reason and I'll grant other languages. You probably would speak Ophanum as a full blooded Nephilim.

Reminder, game is on this week.  Try to arrive around 6:30, I'll have template PCs available.

Bring lots of polyhedral dice, especially in the d4, d6 and d8 categories.  A phased plasma-rifle in the 40 watt range would also be handy.

Ok, I'm planning on trying to complete the one shot next week.

We're at a good place to have additional PCs enter, and I'm sure Rob and Travis will agree that more dakka makes for better survivability.  For reference most of the rest of the module doesn't include things quite as durable as the bull charger.

So let's plan on the normal time on Wednesday, as mentioned earlier I have template PCs.  Some are better than others.

Well, I think I should be able to make it.  I might grab a template, I might bring a character, but I will see you all next week if that is when you are playing.

I'll see you then. The current module is suited to combat specialists. The group can also benefit from a tech secondary.

Brent, just for clarification, is the next meeting on the 5 (your one week comment) or on the 12 (As the title of the thread says)?  thanks.

Both.  The 1-shot he's running that we thought we could get through in 2 sessions (the 29th and the 12th) is taking a bit longer than expected, so we're doing an extra session this Wednesday (the 5th) to ensure we get through it by the time Brett gets back home and we can go back to Shadowrun.

Clear as mud?

Clearer in fact.  See you this Wen.

On a slight grumbling note, this should give me plenty of time to read all the rules in my 5+ hour layover in Salt Lake  >:(

Well, since you're in MormonTownUSA, so you can ask about how magnets work.

Well, I forgot to mention this last night, but in SR terms hell froze over.  Not only did the Seahawks make the playoffs, they did it with a loosing record.  Seattle residents of 2050s and beyond all look back on this as the high point of the Seahawk  franchise.
