Title: Conjurer mini - what happened?
Post by: Hat on January 16, 2016, 12:00:37 AM
So I picked up a Conjurer per the 3055 TRO and the mini doesn't look anything like the drawing from the book which is disappointing.  Anyone know why?

After the unseen lawsuit debacle originally went down, FASA decided to purge all out of house mech designs as a precautionary measure.  As a result, a second wave of unseen were created that includes the TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs as well as the three ComGuard mechs from the ComStar sourcebook.  The non-macross inspired TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs (including the Conjurer) as well as the ComStar sourcebook mechs eventually got reseen artwork in TRO: 3055 Upgrade while the macross inspired TRO: 3055 second line clan mechs got reseen artwork in TRO: 3085.  IWM's minis are of the reseen versions.  In the case of the Conjurer, the IWM mini depicts the reseen Conjurer 2, which features an ATM-9 and two medium pulse lasers.

To be totally clear about this, the Unseen Mechs in TRO 3055 were commissioned, drawn, and paid for by FASA.  Call it sub-contracting; they were simply not done "in-house."  However, even that was considered too much of a risk - somebody could come back someday and sue FASA because their drawings were making FASA too much profit, or something.  There was and is no "legal" justification for Unseen-ing the TRO3055 Mechs; it was just felt it was better to take zero chances than leave even a miniscule window open that might enable a future lawsuit.

Which is more than a little bit ridiculous imo, since you are never ever "lawsuit-proof". Especially in this country.
