General Discussion / Re: Couple Origins Questions
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:51:15 AM »
Answering your questions in order:

1.  There aren't any free parking lots near the convention center, so yes you will need to pay for parking.  Parking is generally $5-$10 per day depending on which lot you decide to park in.

2.  The convention itself is open from roughly noon on Wednesday until roughly 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.  The exhibition hall is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Basically the vendor area is only open from 10:00 to 6:00, but the con itself is open 24 hours a day.

3.  Bringing a copy of TacOps never hurts.

4.  The $5 day pass only allows you access to the exhibition hall.  If you want to participate in events, then you need to actually buy a badge for that day.  I don't know what their pricing scheme for a one day badge is this year, but I would expect it to be in the $20-$40 range.  I would expect to spend about $12-$20 on event tickets for a day of gaming.  Food at the convention center and attached hotel is both crappy and overpriced.  The convention center itself is located in the club district and there is a major counter culture music festival going on only a couple blocks away from the convention center at the same time as Origins, so expect to deal with a lot of traffic and drunk people if you attempt to leave the convention center around 10:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. on Friday or Saturday.
1.)  no big surprise there, the price looks reasonable enough
2.)  So i can get in earlier depending on traffic and such, excellent.
3.)  Good call
4.)  $35, and doing that as we speak.

thanks for the info.

General Discussion / Re: Clan Garrison Clusters

Twighlight of the Clans has some nice details.  Mainly, high rank officers have omnis, second line mechs are scattered through, and SLDF vintage and IS vintage mechs are more numerous than expected.  Not sure how that applies to vehicles, they weren't mentioned all that often if ever.

General Discussion / Couple Origins Questions
« on: May 28, 2011, 03:48:16 PM »
Planning a day trip to Origins for Saturday the 24th.

Do you have to pay for parking?  The only thing i see for sure, 5 bucks to get in, and it costs additional money for the official events.

According to the website, doors open at 10 right?  That means vendors start at 10 I assume, first thing i want to do is hit up the CGL booth for stuff.

It closes at 6, unless you are in an official event, or something about adult something or other.  That wasn't real clear, can anyone shed light on that?

For official events, bring myself, Total Warfare, pencils, and dice.  Anything else?

And any helpful tips advice or comments, I'm open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks folks!

General Discussion / Re: Introductory Box Set sold out?
« on: April 26, 2011, 11:06:42 PM »
There's a difference between selling books and selling a game where the margins are at best, grocery store thin.  It is also significantly easier for a company of Cengage's size to absorb a bad sell.  Your company has a large building in Mason.  CGL is headquartered in Randall's house basically.  Economies of scale is a massive difference here.
And that is my main guess as to why it has sold out so quickly.  I would imagine the profit margin is much thinner with these, and the outlay of cash for a run would be much higher.  With the previous years money issues, CGL might be a bit thin still and decided on a lower production run in case the product didn't do as well as forcasted.  But, who knows, I'm a nuke, not a business guru.

Slowly getting stuff back into Skunk Werks, and I remembered doing this one some time back.  PPU showed a the TC got it's hands on some of the better Feddie tech.  Heres an uprated Jinggau in that same flavor.

General Discussion / The Arty Hammer HMR-5M
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:18:38 PM »
I have no idea why I did this some years ago.  If we still had access to Btechunits i could tell you.  At any rate, most artillery equipped vehicles and mechs are slow(excepting teh Yellow Jacket off the top of my head)  and tend to be rather expensive.  The FWL, in its expansion from 3025 tech into the "modern" era, has found specialty munitions and TAG to be rather handy.  It sadly lacks in the artillery aspect like most forces do.  Hence, the Hammer 5M.  Cheap, reasonably quick, enough ammo to hurt before it scoots, and lastly, cheap.

Enjoy.

Secondarily, I'll also have my stuff there to run Leviathans demos for anybody who'd like to learn.  As per Randall, I'm going through a lot of the unreleased stuff now to see how it works, and there's a decent chance that our group can act as a playtest team for the game.
I'll take a look.

For some reason I can't find anything in either Total Warfare or Techmanual describing the mods for missiles that miss their target and move on to the adjacent hex.  Any ideas for where this is at?
