IC: Tukayyid - May 17, 3052

Field Base

Colonel Atayde reviewed the after action from the previous battle again.  Of the company he had sent in, 4 mechs were crippled with some injuries, but no permanent losses on either front.  He was glad to have had Charikov's unit in the fight as well especially as they were more experienced than most of the Comstar regulars the Rangers had fought alongside.  Captain Breisacher's report noted the loss of a Wolverine to a headshot from the Warhawk, though he didn't have the details on which pilot.  It's likely it was someone they knew and had served with.  He needed to find out.  The pilot had served with the Rangers and had died fighting alongside them.  It would be only fitting to add them to the Roll of Honor.  Currently they were in a holding pattern.  It wasn't clear whether they'd be deployed again or not.  Put in the field a company at a time gave Comstar a rapid reaction force when they needed it.  All hands on deck would allow the Rangers to put a reinforced Battalion on the field but that hadn't been called for.  Their first two battles had been victories.  He hoped they'd done enough with the Jade Falcon's goodbye to keep them licking their wounds for quite a while.  In all honesty though, probably not.  He just had to hope that what they accomplished on Tukayyid would meet the Precentor Martial's objectives.  Time would tell.

He made the rounds, checking in on the wounded and wishing them a speedy recovery.  He made himself available to the other officers in case they wanted to talk. It had been a rough few days.

LTSG Wilhelm approaches Col. Atayde. He holds out a data drive to Col. Atayde and says, “Charikov just contacted me and sent a coded message to me and asked me to deliver it to you. Here it is. And he informed me that one of his pilots was killed. (Slight pause) It was Barbara Au.” With a saddened look, he salutes and heads to the door.

Col. Atayde looks at the drive and then inserts it into his computer to decode the message. The message comes up and he begins to read.

Col Atayde and the Numerian Raiders.

I have already started the process to leave Comstar. I am hoping that you will allow me and my unit to return to the Raiders. Although I was an agent for Comstar, I always strived to do my best to support the Raiders on and off the battlefield. The whole time I was with the Raiders, I felt like I was home. My mission from Comstar was simple. It was to join the new mercenary company, to be a full active member, to support them to the best of my abilities, and report to Comstar what I observe about the unit. My full discharge from Comstar will be complete before you depart from Tukayyid.

Respectfully
Vladimire Charikov

Atayde accepts the coded cylinder and also looks saddened with the mention of Barabara Au's death.  "Wilhelm," he calls.  When he pauses he adds, "She'll be added to the Roll of Honor.  She was a Ranger and died fighting alongside of us.  It's only fitting.  And if what's on here is what I think it is," he says holding up the cylinder, "he'll be welcome back."

<he'll wait and continue the conversation if desired, but won't hold Wilhelm up if he's headed elsewhere>

Once gone he reads the message and sends a reply.

Adept Vladimir Charikov,

As we discussed last time, as long as your intent is to leave Comstar and commit to the Rangers we are happy to have you back.  I can't promise you the 3IC role, but I am checking in with the various Company and Unit officers to see if they want to continue in those positions.  We expect to lift off June 1st barring unforeseen delays.  If you need a bit more time beyond that, let me know and we'll wait.  Otherwise I am happy to confirm you at this time to Lieutenant, Senior Grade.

On a more somber note I was sorry to hear of the death of Barbara Au.  She was a good pilot and her humor will be missed.  I have just completed adding her to the Roll of Honor for the Rangers.  She had been a Ranger, she died fighting beside us and it is only fitting for her to be honored accordingly.  If you think it appropriate, I would be happy to offer condolences to her family.  I expect Comstar has already extended the same.

If there is anything you wish to discuss further, you may do so by correspondence or in person.  I will expect you and your lance in person no later than 1600 May 31st, unless I hear otherwise.

Respectfully,
Colonel Kato Atayde, Numenorean Rangers, Commanding
