Hm, no searchlights, and I have a Warhammer with the searchlight quirk *and* I actually put a 1/2-ton searchlight into a critical slot on the No-Dachi.

OK, rerolling light.

Rolled 1d10 : 8, total 8

OK, Pitch black.  No rerolls left.  Will generate full mission once I get home.

Anyone free to do this?

NORTH

SOUTH

Maps:
Grasslands 3..........Woodlands
Foothills 2..............Grasslands 3

Deployment
Primary OPFOR: Deploys first, anywhere within 5 hexes of the north board edge.

Ranger Forces:  Deploys second, anywhere within 5 hexes of the south board edge.

OPFOR Reinforcements: Enters on their initiative, anywhere on the north board edge on Turn 6.

Environmental Conditions
Pitch Black: as per TacOps Expanded Conditions Table, pg 36.  Note in particular it costs +3 MP to enter each hex unless Jumping (or airborne), and there is a flat +4 to-hit modifier to weapons fire for all units on the board, and a +2 to-hit modifier for all physical attacks.  Finally, all units suffer a +2 penalty to their piloting skill/control rolls (note that this does NOT apply to making physical attacks).

Tainted World: Any water hexes are considered to be a Class 1 Hazardous Liquid.  Each submerged location on a Mech or vehicle suffers 1d6/2 damage whenever a unit enters a hex containing a Hazardous Liquid, or begins the Ground Movement Phase in such a hex.  Breach checks are still required; this liquid deals 2 pilot hits/round to a MechWarrior with a Breached Head Location, but does not provoke a consciousness check.  Battle Armor takes 1d6/2 damage per trooper per hex entered or per round (as above), but does not require a Breach check.  Conventional infantry takes double damage.  Finally, Hazardous Liquid mixing and Water Flow rules are NOT in play, as all the liquid on the board is identical.

Battlefield Support
none

Victory Conditions
Rangers
1) Destroy or render incapable of spending MP at least 5 units from the Primary OPFOR.
2) Do not allow the liaison to be destroyed, crippled, or rendered incapable of spending MP.

OPFOR
1) Destroy, cripple, or render incapable of spending MP, at least 3 Ranger units and the liaison unit.
2) Do not allow more than 5 units from the primary OPFOR to be destroyed, crippled, or rendered incapable of spending MP.

MISCELLANEOUS
1) Exiting the battlefield requires a unit to remain stationary at the board edge for 1 turn.  Only a single spent MP is required to move offboard (ie, the environmental MP penalties doesn't apply; or, more specifically, the Minimum Movement rule overrides it).  Convoy units may only exit from the southern board edge.

2) OPFOR MechWarriors will attempt to capture any ejected Ranger MechWarriors in this scenario, unless a Ranger BattleMech target in LOF is equally as close (or closer) than the ejected MechWarrior, or the Ranger BattleMech target is within 8 hexes and subject to a valid LOF in any case.  OPFOR MechWarriors will attempt to kill any ejected liaison pilots in this scenario; as long as no Ranger units are a valid target within LOF and within 8 hexes of the firing Draconis unit.  KIA liaisons can have contract implications later in the Contract.

Hey Seth, if you're still good for Thursday evening, I am.  However, I don't have a working printer.  Would you mind printing the OPFOR?

Rob,
Sheets are printed.  Giving the state of your packing, do you need maps or minis?

14 September, 3059
Solo Mission: Stand Up (Defender) - Fury
Result: Victory - no effect on contract score.
After-action Report: Fury Lance, under its new commander LT SG Lori Herrera, moved into a local sector to investigate reports of Draconis recce forces.  What they found was a mixed company-strength force attempting a night crossing to approach from the south flank of the Ranger logistics hub.  Without calling for reinforcements, LT Herrerra threw her new command into the path of the Draconis forces, and stand-up fight ensued; the heavy cloud cover and new moon made the conditions nearly pitch black.  While the minimal visibility made for excellent conditions for a surreptitious maneuver, it also shielded the Ranger advance to contact, allowing SGTs Thomas and Fairchild to close to point-blank range without taking any significant fire.

With the battle lit only by muzzle flashes and quick illuminations from Herrera's Warhammer and Fairchild's modified No-dachi, the action was short and sharp.  Fury's Warhammer and Thunderbolt engaged along the eastern flank, and the Wraith and No-Dachi advanced quickly down the west.  The Draconis forces advanced at a glacial pace down the center of the field in an attempt to maximize command integrity in the darkness, and to prevent units from being individually flanked, but their march discipline broke down and the Draconis No-dachi and Marauder IIC broke formation to make individual attacks against what they saw as isolated Ranger Mechs.  A short, sharp action between the two No-Dachis was inconclusive before they were swept apart in the darkness; the Draconis machine attempted a charge against its Ranger counterpart, but cost itself the hit as it dodged furiously to avoid a swinging mace.  While Fury's Thunderbolt and Warhammer provided medium range fire support, the Wraith and Fairchild's No-dachi isolated and engaged multiple Draconis units in detail, blowing both legs off the Hatamoto-chi, ripping the leg from the Marauder IIC and sending it crashing to the ground, and engaging and breaking up the charge of Draconis reinforcements entering the field from the north.  In the battle's closing phases, SGT Montgomery's Thunderbolt blew both SRM carriers into scrap in a single volley, and kicked the head cleanly off of the Drac CO piloting the Grand Dragon.  Having taken over 50% casualties in their primary attack force, and having lost their commander, the Combine forces withdrew in good order, leaving the battlefield to Fury Lance.  The Marauder IIC, Hatamoto-Chi, Grand Dragon, two SRM Carriers, one Hunter Support Tank, and one Panther all lay as casualties on the field. With the open Mech bay available as a result of LT Baxter's medical retirement, Fury Lance recovered the Hatamoto, Grand Dragon, and Marauder IIC all as salvage, and with minimal damage across their lance, held the sector until relieved.
