IC] 13 July, 2821: Dust in the Wind
« on: March 06, 2014, 04:16:48 PM »

Point Alpha
Circe
13 July, 2821

The planet Circe appears to be a place of ill omen from the very beginning.  The landings began on 2 July, 2821 with Clans Snow Raven and Wolverine in the north and Clans Mongoose and Nova Cat in the south.  One of the Wolverine pathfinders was severely damaged upon landing and that hampered the entire Touman’s rendezvous at Point Alpha [the Snow Raven & Wolverine forward operating base].

Things were unusually quiet until 11 July, when a Snow Raven patrol came under attack.  It started with small arms fire at a dismounted Raven mechwarrior who was cleaning a clogged filter on his machine.  SaKhan Joyce Merrell relayed the encounter information to Khan Sarah McEvedy and both clans stepped up patrols.

On 13 July, Wolverine aerial reconnaissance identified a large force 100 clicks West of Point Alpha heading east and using a sandstorm for cover.  Wolverine Khan McEvedy ordered the 1st Wolverine Strikers to intercept….

Will the aerofighters be following the Aerospace Units On Ground Mapsheets p91 of TW or will they be flying on their own low altitude map?

1st Wolverine Strikers w/Aero Point [set up on Southeast corner of map, 6 hexes from edge]

I am interpreting this to mean that the air wing is with the ground pounders.

Steve, I have a question. When you say 6 hexes from the edge, which edges are we talking about. The farthest south and east edges or 6 from the west and north edges of the southeast map?

"Affirmative, Star Captain," replies Sakhan Hallis.  "Your air wing spotted the enemy, they are to be in on the kill."

OOC] Phil, sorry if I wasn't clear.  PC's will enter on SE mapsheet within 6 hexes of south or east edges.

Aeropilot Callahan, "Star Captain Gurdel Sir, Aeropilot Charikov and I will do are best to help identify where the enemy units are and help put them down.  The storm is going to make hard on us but we will be in close support as best we can."

Mechpilot Kumar, "Star Cammander Yamamori Sir, I'm ready for a good scrap, but wish we knew a little more about what we are up against.  That storm we are heading for looks ugly.  Has Star Captain Gurdel given you any more details?  And that storm... is really going to mess with are targeting and make hard to find the enemy units."

One week prior to attack.

Mech Warrior Charikov "Star Captain Gurdel Sir, My brother and I both took weapons technician courses at the academy.  We believe, with a little knowledge from Mech Warrior Kharlan about Circe we can recalibrate the ballistic and missile weapons on the mechs to compensate for the lower gravity."

Callahan "Death's Fury One to Death's Fury Two.  Let's use our infrared sensors and see if we can pick up some heat signatures from their engines and hopefully get an idea of how many units and possibly their formations, locations, and direction headed."

Charikpov "Roger.  And maybe we will be able to judge size of some of the units.  (Chuckling) Cause we need to give those 'Ground Pounders' all the help they can get.  Especially Kumar and my brother."

After establishing Point Alpha, Clan Snow Raven sent out patrols and Clan Wolverine had to scramble to repair several units damaged in the drop.  Along with repairs, a quick familiarization run uncovered calibration issues with Clan Wolverine's weapons due to Circe's lighter gravity.

[OOC: Tech/Weapons skill check.  Target=9 / 2d6+3 (skill lvl) Jones: roll 10+3=13 / MoS=4  Jack: roll 8+3=11 / MoS=2]

The twins, Jones and Jack, jumped in with the tech crews and solved the issue in near record time.

Skirting the edge of the storm, Calahan and Charikov attempted to get eyes on their targets but the sand quickly eroded their gun camera lenses.

[OOC: Navigation/Air skill check.  Target=7 / 2d6+3 (skill lvl) Callahan: roll 5+3=8 / MoS=1]

They were able to get course on the group, bearing 093, straight toward Point Alpha.

[OOC: Sensor Operations check (infrared scans) untrained attribute check.  Target 18 /  2d6+Wit+Will  Callahan: roll 6+3+3=12 / MoF=6  Jack Charikov: roll 6+3+3=12 / MoF=6]

Infrared scans were inconclusive.  The only readings were heat plumes from over a dozen fusion reactors.
