Anyone have any ideas?
Most of the reason I ask is because a logo generally requires a name, and I was going to talk to Brent about getting minis decals printed with whatever logo we come up with.
One request from the erstwhile GM:
no joke/pun/ridiculous names. Good witty names and references are totally fine (and canon...see also the Fighting Uruk-hai and Team Banzai), but it just kills my long-term interest when every time we say the unit name it's a dumb joke. Good naming conventions make plausible and compelling characters, units, and stories, that people enjoy reading/listening to/or playing.
What's the difference?
"Fighting Intellectuals", "Aggressive Defense", and "Disposable Heroes" are good witty names. "Bloodthirsty Capitalists" and "Free-Market Homicide Company" are witty, but a lot less good.
"Black Lectroids" and "Avant Guard" are good references that still sound decent. "Wolfs Dregs", "Snord's Irrelevants", and "Eridani Slightly-Overfed-Horse" are references which do not.
"Bobs BattleBots", "The Killer Kittens", "The Herp-a-Derps", "Captain Zippy's Urbanmech Cavalry", "It's Our Allies, Sir!", and "Sevon's Samurai" are all joke/dumb names.
My initial preference is mostly because I JUST realized that there's a planet called "Numenor" near New Avalon, and most people are creating FedSuns-based PCs. Something along the lines of the "1st Numenorean Rangers" would be my vote. Plus, that makes coming up with variations on a logo really easy:
