All right, by a vote of 5-1 (one vote came in via PM 2 minutes after the poll closed), we're going with Bolt Action.  Please note that this will be:

1) a learning experience for a fair number of people who aren't super-familiar with the setting
2) a learning experience for the people who DO know the setting NOT to be "button counters" or any other sort of pedantic-ness
3) A START.  There's a number of other 28mm systems which we may switch over to eventually if BA isn't a big hit with the group.  But building some armies and getting the minis will be useful no matter the system.

Additionally, some resources are available as pre-painted die-cast models, toys, or you can even get some model kits.  Look for 1/56th scale.  1/48th will do in a pinch if there's nothing in 1/56th; it'll be a LITTLE big but not unusable.

I'll be starting a new Historicals Forum in a few minutes, and there'll be a general discussion thread there.  If you have questions about how to start collecting WW2 minis, or thoughts/questions about what you might want to play, please ask them there.  The above information will also be copied over to that forum.

The factions are German, US, Russian, British, French, Italians, Poles, several eastern european nations, Japan, US marines, Chinese Nationalists, Chinese Communists. These are the ones that I remember most commenting on. With each nation, there are sub units that one can build a force for. British have regulars, Commandos, Airborne (Red Devils), Chindits (Pacific Theater), Gurkhas, and most of the above early war or late war.

It has the costs built in along with the various weapon choices. I would build to 500 pts to start out, and this would let you know what figs to be trying to find.
A squad of inf. from Warlord is approx. $20 from Game Time Miniatures in Milford Ohio. The teams (MG, Mortar) in metal are about $12 apiece. The weapon and 3 figs, which make up the team.

I know that money can be tight, but the starter army has 3 squads plus figs to make a sniper team and an officer and staff. It also has the MMG team, mortar team, an AT team, and a tank of some sort. All in all not a bad buy.

Recommend finding a copy of the army book that you will choose. Would wait on the rules, as V2 is coming out the middle of this month.
