TO&E v3-20
« on: March 20, 2017, 12:36:34 AM »

OK, so here's the final version of the TO&E before "game start".

Things of note:

1) Look at the bolded box on your lance that says "Total Cost/month".  Those are the number of C-bills your unit costs you simply by existing.  It combines Lance maintenance cost, the salaries of your MechWarriors, and the salaries of your Technical staff.  Overhead is a general value which is calculated on behalf of the entire unit, and thus it will come out of the overall unit shares, not your individual lances (it's usually not enough money to bother with anyway, and contacts almost always cover 100% of your overhead costs to begin with).

2) Techs have been assigned to lances.  Each lance has 1 Veteran and 1 Regular Tech.  These are permanent assignments unless the Tech retires or is killed.  There are still some Techs which need to be assigned.  Please fight amongst yourselves to determine who gets whom in the thread below.

3) You will note that your wingmen (and other unit personnel) have skills!  Secondary skills are randomly generated by AtB when the character is created.  These are being kept because it is possible - in the event of a PC death - to "promote" a wingman to a Lance Leader.  Some wingmen have better command potential than others.  To save space: if a non-infantry character doesn't have the Small Arms skill listed, assume they're a +2 (infantry characters have the skill at their experience level; +5 for elite, +4 for vet, etc).

4) I gave up and adjusted the crews of the DropShip/JumpShips to the (wrong) values of what AtB has.  Just go with it.

5) While you didn't technically "earn" them, AtB really yells at you if you don't have technical staff for each unit type.  Therefore I randomly generated 1 Aero Tech and 1 vehicle mechanic, just to shut the program up.  These staff are permanently assigned to the Air Lance and Motor Pool, respectively, and cannot help out a Mech lance.  So now you don't have to hire them.

6) Yes Mike (Capellan-Mike), your Tech's name is "Fidlay".  No, I didn't do that on purpose; the program generated that name for you all on its own.

7) If anyone has an opinion of saying "fuck it" to the StratOps maintenance and repair rules and going back to the BMR-era stuff, say so below.  We're staying with the StratOps customization rules regardless (mostly the stuff about field v maintenance v factory refits), but the whole quality level thing is really bothering me, and just in general, the more I read StratOps, the more I want to bin the entire book except for the Quirk and WarShip stuff.

8.) Contracts are generated and are going up ASAP.  I don't know why, but your administrator bonuses aren't adding in to the contracts; it may be a bug in the program since the campaign hasn't actually "started" yet.  So not having your admins all assigned aren't a huge problem right now.  I just wanted to let you know that the admin discussion can be put on the back burner for a bit because of this.

9) Finally, I'm going to be making some changes to the Campaign Options stuff in the "Step-by-step Guide", because I rather borked some things up.  I was operating off of memory, and set it up in a really bad way.  To the tune of "a 3-month recon raid loses you 11 million CB in pay".  The actual GAMEPLAY STEPS are still good; just the game options on the Table of Contents page have to be adjusted.

10) The Unit CO is responsible for doing the paperwork on all of the unit-owned assets (infantry, motor pool, transport assets, air lance).  This is why the Unit CO is the tie-breaker in group decisions, and gets to make choices in the game.  Because doing extra paperwork sucks, and they need a bit of reward.

11) Finally, your DropShip/JumpShip crew names aren't listed, because I don't care about typing out ANOTHER 50 names and experience ratings.  Their individual salaries are reflected in the salary/month column, however.  They basically don't ever gain XP, so it's not generally worth tracking.  For what it's worth, the only ones of them who REALLY matter are CPT Sajid bin Sal'adin (Invader), CDR Marianna Luong (Triumph), CDR Maria Imbroccata (Dictator), and LT-SG Felipe Santos (hyperspace navigator; elite).

Thanks for setting this up.

2. I would like to claim one of the extra regular techs. The paper thin armor on the Shadow Hawk -2D will pretty much guarantee needing to do internal work after each battle until I can sell the pig or salvage something better (within the BV cap).

5. AtB really is whiny about that, isn't it?

6. Is there an interesting story there?

7. I don't mind quality at the unit level, but at the component level is madness. I'll dig out BMR and read the repair rules before giving a final opinion.

8. Did you find/decide how transportation administration works when you own transport?

11. Fine by me.
