Since you guys were discussing some mech customizations, I want to run something by ya. My plan was to customize this Firestarter as an agile spotter, and then have the BV to improve my other 3 mechs. I'd also possibly have it available as a recon unit, although the recent LAM purchase makes it obsolete in that regard.

With the clan invasion, is there any reason to go this route though, or is it just taking up space and will function as an easy kill for clan PL's?

Might have to go and get C3 in drac space to make that more feasible with how your lance is mostly LRMs.

The Firestarter at max armor can at least exist in a space with clan LPLs. You can get all of the main armor sections above 10. I honestly don't expect my 7/11/7 Firestarters to last long, but they will probably last as long as possible under the circumstances. 6/9/6 just won't cut it on the speed is life front when clan LPLs start eating us alive. I am actually considering the removal of the last flamer or the installation of FF to get those last 7 armor points which will make its legs and CT able to take an ER PPC hit. Even as munchkinned as they are, the medium laser weaponry imbalance is going to be fatal.

It will help. But the range difference combined with pulse, more elite pilots, and targeting computers will be ugly. We are going to have to work for heavy terrain on rerolls for the battles to come. Otherwise ER medium lasers and pulse lasers will just murder us. Forget the ER PPCs, ER LLs, and LPLs. A star of Kit Foxes or Adders will be dangerous to most of our lances (I think most of the lances would win, but there'd probably be losses).

And even get in range of things like our MPLs. 2/4/6 is pretty badly outclassed compared to 4/8/12. I am seriously considering replacing its entire MPL load with an ER PPC so I can stay at long enough range to live. I'll see if it survives first contact with the enemy though before I mod it.

I agree terrain is a benefit. I’d be careful about cities as they have the firepower to quickly bring down buildings. My recollection is they don’t have a lot of jump capable mechs. That may help.
