Next destination
« on: April 16, 2019, 08:07:14 AM »

Hat, as new CO will be selecting our next destination.

The question is where do we want to go? There will obviously be work revolving around containing these Jade Falcons and retaking the worlds. So, do we stay close to the front or retreat to lick our wounds?

There are 2 relatively close factory worlds with different outlooks if we want to go refit. First is Sudeten, Olivetti Weaponry just finished refitting their factory for upgraded mechs. They are like 8 jumps into the Lyran Commonwealth. We should be able to rest and refit there. Ark Royal is on a couple of jumps further, but the Kell Hounds are mercs like us and are probably more likely to roll out a welcome mat than a contracted supplier. Thoughts?

Unless bv goes up, Reaper, Bright and Wolverine lances do not have any customizations to do. So it really doesn't matter to us in that regard. I feel we need to keep the down time to minimum and go to the planet that everyone feels would provide best markets and contracts.

I formerly request we go to Arc Royal. I may have some sympathetic lost relatives there plus it allows me to get off and arrange transport.

Besides factory worlds have.mechs to buy

I just want to put 2 XL engines into two mechs, but need the time to do so. I have the BV to use now. Hopefully get a fairly good market to replace what was lost.

Dunedain is in the same boat. All mechs already customized. Some of the lances are in much worse shape though. Dragon and Skaraborg in particular. Ark Royal is ~10 jumps, but would probably have the best of both contracts and mechs. Sudeten is closer and will become closer to the front... The downside is 150k/jump and minimum of 1 week per jump. So 2.5 months and jump point to planetfall time. Call it 3 months travel time.

Skaraborg is absolutely torn to hell -  but I can probably field *something* by the end of June courtesy depending on how some rolls go with refitting Awesome Oduya and the Phawk - I'm stripping Awesome Kronwall for parts right now.

Dragon is sitting at 150 tons of mechs at this time.

This conjured the mental image of a panicked Cicada next to a pile of armor with a Panther holding a plate to its side while welding it on with its PPC. Followed by the Cicada collapsing uunder the weight with a sad harumph.

I want to see where we net out with individual lances, initial marketplace and any BV changes before taking a serious look at contracts. The unit has 2 mechs in reserve to use as needed. Under current BV constraints I can’t field all 4 of my mechs at once. The LAM’s just too expensive. We also need to wait to see what we get for the Clan salvage.  We’ve got 70% salvage, but not clear what we’ll be offered for it.

Things still to figure out.

Remember, we have *zero idea* where the Invaders are coming to and from because no one paid the phone bill for 6 yearmu vote is Alshain or Rasalhauge.  I have contacts there and it's solid factory work.

Not exactly correct.  We know that the enemy forces were on Anywhere and Here based on where the New Ivaarson Chausseurs and 8th Arcturan Guards came from, which are both Corewards from Sommerset.  Based on limited data, Rimwards makes more sense than further Corewards.

Ok, I spent time last night looking at the suggestions and the distance to various mech manufacturing/ refit locations. I also looked at location for distance to next potential contract as well as a big enough market to help make looking for a new Overlord easier. Based on all that and the invaders known to be Coreward of Somerset (Here, Anywhere), I’m looking at Coventry being our destination. I could potentially go with Donegal, but I think Coventry is a better fit. If there’s a strong reason to pick somewhere else, let me know by late afternoon today. Otherwise we’re off to Coventry.

Coventry may simply be added distance vs. Ark Royal. It would probably be worth asking Rob to check the travel distance/time for each trip. Depending on MegaMek's jump point to planet distance, you can get some wild variations in travel time. Also, there is a stellar void between Somerset and Coventry, which will force a go around, adding more time and jumps. Each jump costs the unit 350,000, so while we can certainly afford to jump, they do cost. Also, if we take another contract on the front, those jumps away are ones we will have to jump back, which is a time problem, but only a cost problem if we get less than 35% transport. But everyone should remember that we get transportation cost back at the end of a successful contract. If we fail, we eat the transport costs.

Well from a rp perspective  ;D

Well I'd prefer not to go to Donegal as the 24th Lyran Guards RCT are there and I highly dislike one of the commanding officers. He was one reason I left my prior unit I am now rejoining. He is a tasteless, tactless, asshat who will get his men killed. He didn't learn anything in the war and wouldn't listen to what was being told to him. He nearly killed a group of us in training. It ended up getting him reassigned finally but was to late for me to stick around as it was after my discharge.

Arc Royal iirc is 9 jumps vs 11 for Coventry and a week less time.  I was using ISC to determine jump routes, so if those numbers are way off I can certainly take another look. Arc Royal is also on the anti-spinward edge of Lyran space, does not have heavy industry there, nor is it close to major markets.  Unless we take a contract near the periphery or in the NW section of the Inner Sphere, we’re likely to be further from our contract starting at Arc Royal than Coventry.

Also, given that Coventry is a major mech producer, I think there’s a better chance we get closer to standard than inflated rates for purchases.

Certainly if I get more information from Rob that puts the choices in better context, I’m happy to consider it.

Brandon: RP reasons will be factored in as much as reasonably possible, so keep bringing them up. :)
