Was thinking do session for creation, then a small one off after since it would take a bit. Could just do character creation on board with GM and when both have time and then we can do some one offs to get used to it.

For those who've expressed interest, what timeframe would you ideally want to play in?  Given that Have 'Mech, Will Travel is running 3040s, 3050s, I'd be more inclined for 3025 era or something 3060s or later.  Thoughts?

In the Selecting Hardware step, how does this work if you wanted to select a combat vehicle since unlike mechs, ASFs, and personal vehicles, they generally require a crew instead of a single person? Is that hand-waved away, or would you need to choose a single person vehicle only, or would you have to hire some crew?

I'm not opposed to any time period, but I'd probably vote for a later time period if i had the choice. Jihad might be cool, new weapons and mechs, the chance for the crew to have to deal with a Manei Domini, would be interesting.  Dark Ages might be cool as well, different stuff, maybe we're on some backwater planet where some mining- and agro-mechs can actually make a huge difference. New sub-factions to deal with, etc. Just thinking out loud, I'm perfectly fine with whatever.

Hardware is selected based on the number of points and weight class. 1 light, 2 med, 3 hvy, 4 assault. If GM allows, we can pool our points and decide who gets what that way as well.
1 HARDWARE POINT
Light BattleMech (20–35 tons)
Light Combat Vehicle (1–35 tons)
Small Personal Vehicle (< 3 tons)
2 HARDWARE POINTS
Medium BattleMech (40–55 tons)
Medium Combat Vehicle (36–55 tons)
Light Aerospace Fighter (20–45 tons)
Large Personal Vehicle (3+ tons)
3 HARDWARE POINTS
Heavy BattleMech (60–75 tons)
Heavy Combat Vehicle (56–75 tons)
Medium Aerospace Fighter (50–70 tons)
4 HARDWARE POINTS
Assault BattleMech (80–100 tons)
Assault Combat Vehicle (76–100 tons)
Heavy Aerospace Fighter (75–100 tons)

Bryan, I expect you'd be the vehicle commander with appropriate NPCs filled in as the crew.  It's supposed to be a lighter system and more narrative, so those kinds of details would only get as much or as little attention as people wanted at least in my reading of it.
