Operation ANGEL Solo Mission - Reaper - 12 February, 3053
« on: August 23, 2021, 01:20:59 AM »

Reminder that with Cache missions, the OPFOR Mech selections don't populate until you select a pilot and Mech to play the scenario with.  The will always average out to the same weight class as your Mech (ie, take a medium, you can see 1 H, 1 M, 1 L; or 3 M; or 2 H 1 L, or I *think* 1 A and 2 L).

Rob,
Trying to decide if I do this which pilot to send. One of my pilots, Alex Rhodes, I hired came with All Weather Fighter. I can not find where it explains what that is. I have looked in the Campaign rules and both the Time of War and the Companion. Could you please inform me where to find it and where the weather and light rules are? Also, rerolling light does not change the weather correct?

Thanks

All-Weather Fighter is in the current Rules Thread, but not in the current rules document as it was added after.  It replaced Blind Fighting and while providing less of a focused benefit, provides a benefit for all different weather types.  Best to read the rules.

Let’s gamble. Please reroll light. If it is Moonless night, Pitch Black, or Daylight use the last reroll on light again.

Full Moon Night, with no rerolls remaining.  I'll generate the scenario in a bit.

The pilot will be SGT Alex Rhodes. Not sure which mech he will pilot. It will be the Gladiator GLD-4RDx3, Griffin GRF-1NDMx, or GRF-1NDx1.

Map is EITHER The Solaris VII "Factory" Map, or if you don't have it, use what's below.

NORTH

SOUTH

OPFOR Deployment (SVII Map): OPFOR enters from the "ramp" on their initiative.

OPFOR Deployment (Starport Maps): OPFOR enters on their initiative, on or up to three hexes away from the north-west corner hex.

Ranger Deployment (SVII Map): Tech starts inside the small building at ground level.  Deployed Reaper Mech starts inside the large building, at any desired level.

Ranger Deployment (Starport Maps): Tech starts in a Light Woods hex which does NOT border the edge of the map.  Deployed Reaper Mech starts adjacent to any desired building on the map.

Environmental Effects
Full Moon Night: +1 MP to enter any hex (unless Jumping).  +2 to all weapon attacks (can be affected or reduced via searchlights or SPAs).

Moderate Rain: +1 to all weapon attacks (can be affected or reduced via SPAs)

Victory Conditions
The last side to have a mobile Mech wins the game, and controls the battlefield.

***EXTING THE BATTLEFIELD***
The game is taking place within a walled cache and cannot be exited.

***FWL MechWarriors will move to and capture ejected MechWarriors if possible, and will fire upon ejected MechWarriors if/when at least 2 of their own number are KIA.  FWL vehicle crews will do neither, and will ignore ejected Ranger MechWarriors***

***The OPFOR Griffin and Vulcan both have searchlights (in both cases, they are mounted above the cockpit, see artwork)***

Rob,

Before committing to this mission, I have a few questions about playing this using the Solaris VII Factory map (curtesy of Steve letting me borrow).
1.   Do the full moon light and moderate rain effects apply to inside the buildings?
2.   Is the ground outside the buildings pavement and does skidding rules apply inside the buildings?
3.   Do reckless movement rules apply?
4.   How do the elevators work in the buildings? How long does take to go between levels? Do random roll at the beginning to see what level the elevators are on to start? And if they are on different levels, do you have to activate the elevator and what for it to travel between levels before boarding (I assume yes on this one)?
5.   If there is no way to exit the map, is this a battle to the finish with no way to escape?
6.     Clarification on victory condition. Atb says to destroy or cripple the mechs and the write up says last side with mobile mech wins. Question is, would the FWL abandon mech if it is crippled per Battlemech Manual since they can't withdraw?

1.   Do the full moon light and moderate rain effects apply to inside the buildings?
They do. Even though it's dumb.

2.   Is the ground outside the buildings pavement and does skidding rules apply inside the buildings?
As marked on the map.

3.   Do reckless movement rules apply?
Always do.  They're part of using Light Conditions.

4.   How do the elevators work in the buildings? How long does take to go between levels? Do random roll at the beginning to see what level the elevators are on to start? And if they are on different levels, do you have to activate the elevator and what for it to travel between levels before boarding (I assume yes on this one)?
As per the SVII rules.  If you don't have access to those, assume they don't work and you must use the ramps.  If a floor cannot be reached w/o a ramp, then you cannot deploy in or access the floor, except via jump movement in the case of a roof.

5.   If there is no way to exit the map, is this a battle to the finish with no way to escape?
Yes.  Cache missions are dangerous.

6.     Clarification on victory condition. Atb says to destroy or cripple the mechs and the write up says last side with mobile mech wins. Question is, would the FWL abandon mech if it is crippled per Battlemech Manual since they can't withdraw?
Go with the writeup - the AtB "cripple" condition functions based on the presumed ability of an enemy Mech to withdraw at the end of the game (ie, you let them go).  However, the SLDF Cache Map that AtB uses for all Cache missions is LITERALLY a level 24 wall around the entire map with no way in or out; there is no way to withdraw.  And yes, they'd abandon under the normal campaign conditions (ie, the Mech has no way to further participate in the scenario, say by triple engine hit, or by being prone and with no arms).
