Emergency Medical Report - FURY LANCE

It is with a heavy heart that I am reporting the permanent invaliding of LT SG Cassandra Baxter.  During the first engagement of Operation FUSILIER on 31 July 3059, she suffered a mild concussion during her Falconer's fall when the `Mech's leg was blown off by a freak SRM hit. Initial medical care by Dr. Jesus was deemed adequate, and LT Baxter initially presented no further symptoms aside from the typical mild post-concussion syndrome. However, the symptoms grew more severe over the following week and became accompanied by behavioral changes.  Symptoms remained nonresponsive to treatment, and by 8 August LT Baxter lapsed into a coma.  Medical imaging revealed a progressive cerebral hematoma placing pressure on the thalamus, corpus callosum, and inner ear functions.  Surgery is scheduled that should save LT Baxter's life, but properly draining and sealing the hematoma will require a significant invasive procedure around the inner ear, which will severely and permanently affect her sense of balance.  LT Baxter will be fortunate to walk again, let alone pilot a BattleMech.  It is also a near-certainty that the behavioral changes will remain - if not so severe - which will compromise her command judgement for the foreseeable future.

It is therefore my professional recommendation, and the matching recommendation of all consulted Numenorean Rangers medical staff, in the military interests of the unit, that LT Baxter be medically invalided, effective immediately, and a permanent replacement, breveted to Lieutenant SG, be named to command Fury Lance.

Also, I think this was the first instance ever of such a thing happening in either campaign. Missed the 1st roll, given that forums is being wonky and showed tampered rolls on an untouch thread. Tough luck there.

For clarification:
I burned a point of EDG during game 5 in the last contract, and as a result got a major injury which resulted in a lost point of Willpower.  That was done live.

This time I rolled on the forum to determine my medical treatment as a result of the pilot hit from game 1 of this contract. I rolled a 2, and because I needed to figure out the lost attribute I edited the 2nd roll into my post to figure out which attribute got lost, and forgot that once a post with a roll was edited it would forever show all those rolls as being tampered with.  The lost attribute was Willpower.

Then after the 1 week time frame for medical rolls, I changed doctors and rolled for the pilot hit again, rolling a 2.  This time I remembered about the edit problem, so put up a 2nd post with the lost attribute roll. The lost attribute was Willpower. 

Everything's been done by the book and as the rules intend; it's just that the odds of this happening - as per the discussion going on at /btg/ about it, appears to be hugely improbable.  1 in 6 of the major wound, 1 in 8 for the Willpower, 1 in 36 for the snake eyes, 1 in 8 for the Willpower, 1 in 36 for the snake eyes, and 1 in 8 for the Willpower.  That maths out to ROUGHLY 1 time in 2.515e-7, which I think is about a 0.00002515% chance. Or approximately 1 in 50,000 and change.  There is no reason or call to make any rules changes about a 1 in 50,000+ chance.

It has come to my attention that due to recent events unforeseen by Fury lance medical team that Fury CO, LTSG Cassandra Baxter, has taken a concussion, which later led to the discovery of a hematoma that will affect her . With the advice from her medical staff, she is going to have to force retire. You will be missed. I will advise everyone to remain cautious on their endeavors and hope we do not have an incident going forward. Primary command will be notified of the incident that has occurred. The XO of Fury Lance has now been appointed to CO of the lance, unsure if permanent at this time.

We will ensure she gets the best care prior to her departure, and hope for an expedient recovery.
