As dawn broke on August 23rd, Diana Burciu entered the huge hangar appropriated for Mech repairs, steaming cup of caf in hand. She expected to see the usual flurry of activity, local astechs cleaning, painting, running tests on various systems. Even though Diana might be the most junior tech in the Marigold force, she was still the boss of her own crew, and her assistants generally got started on the day's work before she even arrived. The same held true for most of the astech groups, and a mercenary force the size of the Rangers meant a LOT of activity in the hangar every day.

Instead, she was greeted by a far different sight. Many gantries were empty, teams huddled together talking quietly. As she moved further in, she noticed that Marigold's main combat force was gone, only the backup mechs and the salvaged Flashman remained. Her team was gathered around the feet of the Flashman, looking serious, and immediately answered the question she had yet to ask.

"Call came in just a few minutes ago, there's a large Wolf force heading towards Bjornton." Diana's confused look prompted further explanation. "It's a port town not too far away."

"I guess that explains why the dropships are still here", Diana responded.

"Ja, apparently the commanders thought they could march there and meet the Wolves in force before they sacked the town. We're hoping they're right, not a one of us here that doesn't have family working on those docks." Everyone on the team was watching Diana. She knew they were worried sick, and she even saw a few with red, puffy eyes. She needed them to keep busy, but not too busy, so they wouldn't be too tired for what was to come. There were long hours ahead of them.

"Alright, we've been through this before. The Rangers will stop them, and we need to be ready to get Marigold back into fighting shape as quick as possible. Get these gantries cleaned up. Move armor plating, ammo, and actuators into each appropriate bay. And get that Flashman tidied up, and tools put away. We won't be working on that today."

Techs were already rising to their feet, grateful for something to occupy worried minds and trembling hands. Diana continued, "Once we've got everything in order here, we'll rig the hammocks around the Archer and grab as much rest as possible before our team gets back."

One of the younger astechs stopped for a moment and looked back at Diana, "If the Wolves break through, are they coming here?"

Diana gave him the most confident stare she could muster, "The Rangers WILL stop them, now focus on your tasks." That was pretty convincing. Diana was certain only she could hear the slight quaver in her voice.

Flashman remains in salvage spot for lance, and has maintenance costs for both July/August.

Wow, glad we don't have a rule where multiple failed rolls on ammo conversion results in an explosion in the armory.
