GenCon questions
« on: June 26, 2013, 02:09:38 PM »

Just a few GenCon questions:

1) Does the Solaris tourney use Solaris-specific mechs and maps? Is there any sort of prize?

2) QuickStrike Ops: Was this also run at Origins? Any comments on how it went?

3) Trial of Bloodright: Why are there still so many tickets available for this? Seems like a cool thing, to get a permanently assigned bloodname.

4) Do you guys ever attend the CGL seminars (State of Battletech, etc)?

5) What prizes does the Open generally have?

Thanks!!

6) Levs Canon event: I asked on the Levs boards, but no response yet so I thought our own Admirals might know. The 2.1 canon event is listed twice. Is it being played twice or is the second event actually 2.2?

1:  Solaris has their own set up for maps.  Its played on a big hex board with a variety of miniature terrain, not paper maps or standard solaris maps.  Though the arenas may be based on them.  I also believe the mechs are provided by them.
2:  Rob played in it, so I'll leave this for him.
3:  Not sure what turnout is normally on these, but it sometimes depends on the name offered.  Kerensky year was pretty full, and it seemed pretty busy last year when some guy won the Hazen name.
4:  Nope.
5:  I know there has been a gold mapscale leopard trophy before, and I think there was a chess set of painted mechs one year as well.  Origins had a grab bag of swag as a prize.
6:  2.1 being the second day?  It should be an all day event that has been broken up into slots similar to the btech canon events.  I don't know if they were just naming them all the same or if it was a typo.  Whiteknight, Paul, or Rob will catch it on the Levs forums.

Brandon, unless Rob corrects me I'm guessing we'll have a big sit down Saturday.

Hey fellas,

How's GenCon falling into place for y'all?  I've got tickets to the Trial of BloodRight (fast becoming a GenCon tradition for me), and -- to the surprise of utterly no one -- the Wolf vs. Wolf-in-Exile game.

My Saturday's pretty wide open, though, if anyone wants to try to grab a meal or spend a handful of generic tickets on a game or something.  Unless I get hauled in to pinch hit and run a few SR games last minute, I've got pretty much all day to kill.

Hi, Rusty. Good to hear from ya. Not going to happen for me this year. No diorama from Camospecs, so no reason to go, other than the gaming.  ;)

I'm still planning on being there, especially since I already bought my badge. The bad news is that  I haven't booked a single event yet, so still wide open.

Do you plan to play in any of the canon story-line events?

One year I want to try that.  Just show up without a plan, and see where GenCon takes me.  Let the convention lead me to cool stuff, breeze around without a care in the world or any need to be anywhere at any particular time, and just kind of hobo around the joint, seeing what looks cool.  Invariably, though, I panic and tell myself "GenCon will take me to the stuff I liked playing all the years before!  Ack!  Buy game tickets!"

But one year...one year.

At the moment, I don't, but I've got a great big stack of generi-tickets ready to go, to see what I can get in on.  I went out of my way to leave a couple big time slots open, thinking I'd get corralled into running some Shadowrun stuff, and then...well...they had a bunch of other GMs sign up, and I ended up not getting booked for a single one.  If I'd known that was gonna be the case, I probably would'a jumped into more BTech, but as it was I was trying to leave time to run stuff for the people that cut me a paycheck.  ;)

Which reminds me -- while I'm on the subject of paychecks! -- if anyone remembers the old Syndicate and Syndicate Wars games, check out this Kickstarter for Satellite Reign.  The KS proper just locked up today, but they're still taking PayPal from slacker-backers, and every dollar helps.  It's gonna be a pretty wicked game, in my opinion, and I'm very glad to be on board doing some writing for them (and potentially lots MORE writing for them, if budgets allow):  http://www.twitch.tv/5livesstudios/
