Original idea, not feasible, so removed to avoid confusion.

If thats what you're wanting to do, go for it.  Clans always seemed to me to be about master warriors, which is as much sun tzu (not Liao) as it is Rambo.

I'm looking at a recon build for my primary.  Probably driving a spector, phx, or mongoose.  May drop choosing a mech for a few more traits, not sure yet.

Attributes Priority C: 30 + 2
Body:          5
Strength:     3
Dex:            6
Reflexes:      5
Intelligence: 4
Willpower:    4
Charisma:     3
Edge:          2

Traits A 800
Custom mech 200 (can choose a light or medium)
Maneuvering Ace 100
Natural aptitude/ pilot/ mech 500

Negative Traits: 200
Animal Antipathy 100
Unattractive (mauled by clan mascot) 100

Skills B
Piloting +5
Sensor Operations +5
Gunnery +4
Computers +3
Artillery +2
Career/Soldier +1
Technician/Electronics +1

My second guy I'm a bit less sure on.  I can either see doing a second light/fast medium to run with my primary as firesupport, or doing an ASF pilot.  I'd like to do the pilot to get some time in with fighters, but only having one unit airborne will probably end poorly.

I decided not to do the brothers approach. The pilot will be his son.

character updated 10/3

james moon

James was born on September 17th, 2779. He is the son of two mechwarriors of the Star League. His mother was taken from active duty when she realized she was pregnant a small time after the anchorage landings. As his father continued the fight to try and end the war he was left unaware. His father learned of his birth at the end of the fighting for Union City. He grew up as the Star league fell apart at the age of 5 he was taken by his parents on the great exodus. He would listen to the stories his parents and others would tell him of the days before the war. He would dream of one day finding the peace and beauty that once was. At the age of 10 he started taking martial arts lessons along with his father from one of the other members of his fathers unit. He studied tactics and combat while he had time to himself after school work. By the age of 12 he began simulator training and impressed some of the warriors who would watch his short battles. The mind of a child but the reflexes and sharpness of a second year cadet. He tended to stick to himself avoiding conflicts with others because of his mothers words. "Your training is to protect those you love. You never use it unless others need you or your life depends on it." and his fathers reluctance to agree showed his mother was right. His father did add one more point. "One other reason to fight is to fight for what you believe in. If the ideals are pure and just then you have my support. Do not let those things get away or fail." When he became 15 he was fully able to pilot his fathers griffin. His father began the process of teaching what remained of the knowledge his son had not soaked up over the years. He is now ready to fight for the ideals he believes in and the things that are just.

I decided not to do the brothers approach instead will have a grandson who will fight alongside my current pc little confused what you mean by martial arts will not kick in till level 4.

Advanced skills such as Martial Arts kick in at level 4 and start using 2 attributes rather than 1 and I believe provide more options.

Quote from: Ice
also to get a royal griffin for him as well would that still be 200 or will that be different now not sure if I over looked it will modify more once know for sure

Not sure, Steve will have to answer that one.  You have the option to take up to 200XP worth of Negative traits which could cover the 100XP you're short for the trait (700 spent out of 800).

Quote from: Ice
skills b
              5 gun mech
              5 pilot mech
              4 martial arts
              2 small arms
              2 technician mech
              1 sensor ops

Just a guess, but you'll likely need Career/Soldier per the original AR rules.  Also, I think Technician is more specialized like Fusion rather than unit type, but I don't have the book in front of me.

Quote from: Ice
attributes c 3000xp

strength 5
body 5
reflexes 7
dexterity 5
intelligence 4
willpower 4

One small problem with this is that you have 2 stats at a 0 - Charisma and Edge.  As I recall that would render the character dead.  ;)

• (200) Custom Mech: Pillager 3Z
• (100) Assault Mech
• (-100) Stephan Cage (Ice Hellion Khan)
• (-100) TDS

Born: Northern Circe

Background:
Born in 2791 and raised on Circe, Dimitri is perhaps the oddest of those selected to be among Nickolas’ 800 Clan founders.  His parents were not only civilians, but hadn’t previously been in service.    His military ties were through his grandfather and his uncles.  While his grandfather and one uncle came with Nickolas’ Exodus from the Pentagon worlds, the larger O’Neil family remained behind.  Like his parents though, Dimitri was brilliant.  Had he remained in the Inner Sphere he would have been enrolled in college years ahead of his peers.  At the request of his grandfather the Admiral, he was given permission to take the entrance test to the Katyusha Military Academy on Strana Mechty.  An early growth spurt had him of a similar size to those several years his senior.  His test scores were the best of the recruiting class.  More importantly he showed an aptitude for the military.

His Transit Disorientation Syndrome (TDS) made following his grandfather into the Navy impractical.  It was a bitter disappointment.  Instead he would train as a Mechwarrior.  At the Academy once again he excelled.  He pushed hard and by midway through his second year had advanced into the class from the year before.  His advancement disgruntled some and upset the balance.  He requested placement at the bottom of the class and worked his way up.  He didn’t command the room with his presence as other cadets did.  He was quiet and introspective.  Others though learned to listen when he spoke as his ideas were clear and well thought out.  He adapted to his audience, presenting the information and arguments most needed to inspire the desired action.  He didn’t demand their respect or their trust.  He earned it.  Moving up the ranks of the cadets was simply a reflection of how things worked out.  By the time graduation rolled around he was first in his class.  He had beaten every cadet and every instructor in the field at least once.

Colonel Cage as the colony liaison from Kerensky’s command had heard of Kharlan’s feats and wanted to see them for himself.  During an exercise in which Kharlan had already beaten two instructors the Colonel decided to put him in his place.  Unannounced he joined the Opfor against Kharlan.  Though unexpected, the cadet adapted quickly to the situation.  Though his ‘Mech sustained heavy damage, he bested Colonel Cage.

On June 12th, 2807, Kharlan was named one of the 800.  His testing had placed him among the best.  His grasp of tactics and strategy superb.  His ability to lead, amply demonstrated.  Colonel Cage however was incensed.  For all of Kharlan’s talents and promise, he was still a boy of 16 who had never been to war.  To place him ahead of seasoned vets near equal his skill, but proven in combat grated.  And the Colonel suspected that Kharlan’s victory over Cage in the field helped cement his place in the Clans.

Note: Remaining history will be written once we're through the trials of position.  Also, from a personality perspective Dimitri's not arrogant, just brilliant and driven.

Relatives:
Mother: Dr. Erin O’Neil Kharlan – Journalist, historian and author
Father: Dr. Viktor Kharlan – Former professor of Biochemistry
Grandfather: Admiral Kelly O’Neil who commanded the Duke of York (McKenna class) through the Liberation of Terra after Admiral Taro Marrkgrae was killed in action early in Operation Chieftain.

Brandon, Paul, Brent, do you all have any preferences on what you want to do with your second possibly non-mech pilots?  I'm still trying to sort out what I want to do with mine.  Also, what are we looking at for desired roles?  I'm seeing a couple CO types and Moon is a general combatant.  Is there anything that we definitely want to have in our toolbox?

Travis, my 2 characters at this point are Yamamori (age 75) and Kharlan (age 30) at the start of Operation Klondike.  Kharlan is a C.O. build with Tactical Genius, high leadership and high tactics.  He'll also provide a real punch with twin gauss rifles.  I made sure he was mobile with Jump 3.  If I've got the only slow Mech in the bunch I may reconsider, but I was looking forward to having a fun wrecking havoc with the Pillager.  If someone else wants the C.O. slot I can easily rework Kharlan.  There are a variety of ideas I played around with originally.  I wouldn't mind a brawler, but I'd like to play with something with a Gauss probably.

Given the Clans standard tactical doctrine I would think we should expect to run a binary.  The final 2 slots being a 5th player or a couple of NPCs.

Based on what we've seen so far and under the assumption we keep our current rides if we bring our characters forward, here's what we're looking at:

Assault Star
Pilager 3/5/3 - Twin Gauss (Kharlan, C.O. hopefully)

Recon/Striker Star
Starslayer 5/8/5, ECM, Combatant (Yamamori)
Royal Griffin 5/8/5, ECM, Combatant (Moon)
Light/medium Recon Mech (Travis)
??? Light/Medium (Phil)
??? Light/Medium (Phil)

The Starslayer's a good ride, especially with the combat computer.  I wouldn't mind changing it out for an Exterminator 4C or another really good 5/8/5 or better mech.

I would see either finishing out a second heavier star or if one of the mechs in the Striker/Recon star got placed in the assault star, attaching an aerospace fighter to each of them.

Thoughts?

My second character is going to be taking after his grandfather instead of his father. His father is in the infantry but he qualified for mech use. He learned everything from his grandfather from day one of age 13. He will be piloting a royal variant griffin as well.  As for the other pilot it will in fact be Moon from our current campaign if he makes it. If he does not make it then I will tweak this one a little for his father instead of infantry mech as well.  If that happens the persons mech will be bigger. If needed Allan maybe able to switch to a heavy of some sort.

Phil, did you work that out with Steve?  I thought we needed to spend 200 on custom mech to pick the mech we wanted. 400 I thought was a build your own roughly speaking.
