questions of heavy lifter SPA
« on: November 15, 2017, 12:33:07 AM »

Ok, I am considering picking up the heavy lifter SPA I want to confirm the rules that I would regularly use.  From what I can tell, we would need to use all to TO 92-99 in order for this SPA to mean anything.

For those who don't want to read a lot of math, these rules allow mechs to do things such s pick up vees and throw them.  Possibly into enemy mechs. Or tear limbs off immobile prone mechs.

I do not know if the rules for grappling would also need to be used, just for hilarity sake.  They could be useful, but also could add more complexity to an already complex system.

And for those keeping track at home, yes battletech has rules for picking up tanks and throwing them into mechs.  Its in TO.

Where am I right o wrong on my assumptions before I buy the skill.

At a minimum, Heavy Lifter is a pre-requisite for other SPAs (it's a lot like Marksman that way; it's pretty crap on its own, but it unlocks other stuff).  Also, I can guarantee that if you wanted to use Heavy Lifter to tear a limb off an immobile prone Mech, that would be TOTALLY fine.

The Mech grappling rules, however, are not.  Nor are the throwing rules, mostly because if you can throw a Savannah Master, there's nothing stopping you from rigging Mech cargo nets to carry HE aerospace bombs and throwing them like grenades into enemy hexes (yes, I've pointed that out; Welshman told me to shut up and not talk about it again).

Don't get me wrong, having my PC running around throwing Heavy Thermobaric Grenades would be hilarious.  It would also completely break the game apart.

But can he rig a mech cargo net to store all those sweet limbs?!

Us - "Wow, hardly any salvage this mission."
Mike - "I beg to differ, I've got a sack full of arms and legs. Now who wants some candy?"
Us - "Woot, and since the mechs stay on the map, it shouldn't count against our salvage cap."
GM -  >:(

I want to model this mini SO bad.
