Those are terrifying pirates, but if we live we get to keep all salvage with SLAMMER.  Its a pirate hunt so they may shoot ejected pirates.  Still seems like a trap to me.

BUTTERCUP - PASS - 55% transport on 25 jumps would bankrupt us and the 20% salvage would erase us from history

TSINGTAO - At least we would be close to home... - Not bad, we can clean up on the transport, and get 70% salvage with 100% BLC. Not good for RP reasons, but a solid contract. Short contract.

MARATHON - Not bad, close to the center, short contract. Basically the same as TSINGTAO but starts 40 days earlier for 10% lower salvage. Better for RP reasons.

SLAMMER - 100% salvage on A level garbage *whistle* (Forgot the reversed quality for forces), but IIRC pirate hunting has way higher random event chances, like a star league cache.  Rob confirm?

DRAKE - Preston is 1 jump past Pella II, so it's really close. Planetary assaults have limited purchase opportunities IIRC, so we would need to stock up before the fight, but that is achievable with our current finances. 9 month contract is longer than others.

BARLEYCORN - Long Contract with cover for transportation.

I see MARATHON, SLAMMER, and DRAKE as potential winners. MARATHON is basically a repeat of RUNNING HORSE, which went well for us. SLAMMER is a change of pace and gamble in the heart of the FWL (it should be within 2 jumps of Atreus. DRAKE is a challenge mission.

Thoughts and preferences?

Yes. My character fought for the Fed Suns.

Gotcha. Also Marathon or Drake for myself, will lean towards Marathon.

My vote is for Marathon.  RP-wise Tsingtao would be a challenge as former FedSuns.

Just to make sure we are looking at this correctly, D level forces are 3025 mech based with minimal advanced tech. Pirates with A level gear will be a gold mine (If we salvage it anyway).

I should also note that the world Thirty Weight disappeared from the maps (How the hell does that happen? Were Sith involved?) during the 2nd Succession War. Another nearby/neighboring world disappeared off of the maps during the 3rd Succession War. These are worlds in the heart of the FWL. Somebody is up to something, and now we have pirates with A level gear. I really want a piece of that.

with slammer we get 100% salvo and transport terms and the salvo is a level

this would be a good one to load all the lances up with gear and the unit reserve selling any outdated crappy stuff we can to bolster the unit and lance coffers

we can in fact get parts still as well as still sell salvage with that mission right?

only issue with the lack of market is the lack of battle loss comp

my picks would be marathon drake or slammer

Ok, I’m good with Marathon or Slammer.  I don’t think I’ve got the resources to do Drake. My initial WH gets my mechs updated, but I’d need parts which sounds like a problem.

Market doesn't affect BLC. Having access to the market allows us to buy units and hire personnel. I believe we would also be unable to sell stuff. BLC is a contract term that would apply regardless, but is only accounted for at the end of the contract.

ok in that case slammer might not work if we cant sell that salvage right away

Rob, can you clarify the market, buying/selling units, and buying/selling components at an off the grid world?

Rob, can you clarify the market, buying/selling units, and buying/selling components at an off the grid world?

Off-grid doesn't matter as far as AtB is concerned.  The only time you don't get market access is during certain mission types, notably guerilla campaigns.

FWIW:

Planetary Assault:  Extremely high ops tempo, especially in the first week-ish of the contract.  Often requires an initial hot-drop.  OPFOR is weighted heavier-than-average.
Pirate Hunting: Extremely slow ops tempo, with mostly recon-type missions.  Basically, you're looking for the pirate base.  Almost always ends in either a base assault or in a large field engagement.  Tends to want to build scenarios with lots of TacOps rules, since pirates pull dirty tricks.  Highest proportion of special solo missions in the game.  Also, FWIW, pirate gear isn't inherently garbage: it's most likely to roll on Periphery General, but can roll on *any* era-appropriate RAT for unit determination.  I'll admit I'm curious as to what an A-rated pirate outfit looks like.
Garrison Duty: WILDLY variable, but even so, you're basically always going to have ~6 months straight of downtime in there, so it's good for large-scale refitting.

I agree this should likely come down to being between MARATHON and SLAMMER.  My personal preference lends itself to SLAMMER, because I think the upside is higher; D-rated Drac gear isn't too compelling.
