"Have `Mech, Will Travel." / Campaign Cleanup? New campaign questions
« on: June 26, 2022, 07:45:15 PM »
In light of the campaign reboot, is any cleanup necessary here? Should XP be tracked for the last mission, retirement rolls, warehouses and repairs? Does any of it matter going forward, or do we just leave it be?

New campaign questions (I didn't want to post in the other thread and bury Rob's post):

 - Randomly determined techs, doctor, and wingman: Can we do those rolls right away or should we wait for more instruction? The word "may" was used, so I'm guessing you could choose not to roll and retain a specific class. I'm also assuming that once a roll is made, "may" no longer applies and you're stuck with the roll.

 - Each lance may support its own paint scheme: Very cool, will be taking a break from Blue for awhile!  ;D

 - Players will create a character and a new lance: Putting the word out now for help with this, as I absolutely suck at it.

General Discussion / CGL Releases Battlefield Support deck
« on: October 13, 2021, 12:48:39 PM »
https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/collections/battletech-new-arrivals/products/battletech-battlefield-support-deck

This looked kind of cool, good to see products like this that make it easier for new people to use support. I'm not clear if this would make it possible for someone without BM to use BSP, but if so, that's also awesome.

General Discussion / Issue with accessing forum
« on: May 28, 2020, 05:43:37 PM »
So, for a long time I haven't been able to access this site from my work computer, but over the past few months this has extended to my cellphone as well. I get the following error as soon as I try to log in:

Not Acceptable!

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

Previously, I had thought this was a restriction on my work computer, maybe the security team thought it was an unsafe website or something. When it started happening on my phone, I wasn't sure what to think.

Is it possible this has something to do with the site itself, or possibly the host? I did a quick Google search and it appears to be something that pops up with HostGator, which apparently we also use. Just looking for some help, I'm tired of not being able to access the site from anywhere I want. :)

Thanks!

General Discussion / Free models
« on: June 17, 2019, 09:57:29 AM »
Years ago I bought some cheap Chinese knockoff plastic models: crusader (maybe Pixie),  stinger,  LAM, and LAM aero.

They're very much the wrong scale for battletech,  maybe 1/200. They do have some moving parts, which is interesting.

A good modeler could likely do something really cool with them,  but it would take a lot of work to make them look like anything better than what they are.

I assembled the LAM, but the rest are all new on sprue.  Free to whoever wants them.

One of the primary benefits to running games at a store-front like GTM is that the game we love (or have a love/hate relationship with, depending) gets seen being actually played on a regular basis by other gamers. We often have people stop by and tell us that they still have miniatures, but haven't played in 20 years, etc.

My proposal is that we amp up the promotion of our group a little bit more by doing the following:

-Provide Karl at GTM with text/photos for an "event" to be created for our monthly games. (I can do this)
-Within the Event, make it clear that we welcome new/returning players that would like to join us for the full session, or even just part of it

How we accommodate this:

-Essentially, we want to make sure that we can swiftly add a player to the game at just about any time (reasonably speaking) without adversely disrupting the balance of the game or the strategy of the established OpFor players.
-If an experienced player wants to join at the beginning, we can simply include them in the OpFor disbursements, perhaps assigning easier-to-run units if we're unsure of their abilities. Long-range fire units, particularly units that excel at sitting in some trees and pulling the trigger, are a good place to start. (typically, we already do this)
-If an experienced player or a new player wants to join us mid-game, we simply have a selection of low-bv, easy-to-run units on standby. Units that typically won't swing the balance much are ideal, pretty much any sub-500 bv light mech that can deal about 10 points of damage or less. Giving him a 3/4 pilot for such a light mech seems fair as well. The GM would have sole control of his deployment area, in order to prevent the new deployment from wildly swinging a game one way or the other, such as reclaiming a previously cleared objective, etc. The mech should be considered a local "loyalist" to whatever OpFor is on board, some farmer who's been hiding an old unit in a barn and has now sent his son into the fray when needed. The mech probably shouldn't be salvageable.  We could even have a couple such mechs set aside with sheets ready to go, and let the newcomer pick one. This way he likely gets in a few turns as a "demo", and he can exit whenever he likes (we'll either remove the mech or hand off to the OpFor).

So, the idea is that we give our game more exposure and possibly pick up a few players. The downside is that we potentially have too many people show up on a Saturday? However, it should be fairly easy to manage expectations through the FB events, and even get a handle on how many are coming. There are times, like our upcoming game, where we could actually use a couple more experienced OpFor players, and this just might be one way to get them.

Thoughts? Pew pew?

General Discussion / Not a total loss... Robotech RPG Tactics
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:18:31 PM »
Well, a hair under 5 years ago I invested about $140 bucks into this nightmare kickstarter. Since then, they released Wave 1, promised Wave 2, went many many months without updates at all, lied incessantly, etc. In the meantime, after looking over the models and rules, I decided I was likely never going to play this game, but I held out a little hope that when Wave 2 released there'd be some life in it.

For years, this box o'crap has sat untouched in my closet, I having only ever assembled a few Regults and a single VF in Air mode. But with this toilet swirl finally coming to an end, and having procured a small expansion box of Destroids as my compensation for Wave 2, I decided to go ahead and assemble a single Rifleman and Warhammer. Since both of those would be used during the next campaign game, my motivation was increased and I thought I might as well salvage some small value out of this dumpster fire by at least building/painting some OpFor minis.

Wow! I really am impressed and greatly relieved to find that not every bit of my $140 was completely wasted. These two miniatures are beautiful. Yes, they're kind of a pain to assemble, and require some work to hide seams, if you choose to do so (I spent minimal time on this and decided to live with what I got). But the poses you can achieve are dynamic, the detail is great (for soft plastic), and while I know this borders on heresy... I think they might be better looking than the Ral Partha unseens.  :o

At the very least, I'll end up with some excellent minis for OpFor forces: 4 Warhammers, 4 Riflemen, 2 Longbows, 2 Archers. Plus as many LAMs as a person would ever need.

These are not complete, need basing, decals, and weathering, but I'm happy with them.

Minis Board / Parts search - Thunderbolt chest lasers
« on: February 15, 2018, 03:09:32 PM »
Hi all, I'm looking for the chest lasers for an unseen thunderbolt if anyone has a spare available. Every Tbolt I see doesn't include that one piece.

Alternatively, I'm looking to buy a complete unseen Tbolt.  (^_^)b

Historical Wargaming / Bolt Action at CincyCon
« on: February 14, 2018, 06:11:42 PM »
Hey guys, Phil and I are playing in the Friday evening Bolt Action tourney at CincyCon: http://cincycon.org/tournament.cfm

Just thought I'd mention it since it's a great format (only 600 points), and some of you have BA armies collecting dust.  (^_^)b

Tourney has prize support from GTM as well as Warlord, and Tom does a nice job of GM'ing this stuff.

One other thing... anyone else notice that the main banner for CincyCon features Battletech, yet the only BT being played is a Grinder?!? :(
