I vote for #1.  Going against a green force to start out with is good.  Salvage is good enough, overhead and transport aren't bad.

I am fine with randomly allocating other techs.

I would also like to hire elite mech tech, but if it will cause friction in group I will take the veteran mech tech instead.  I don't know if it is allowed but if my tech isn't need for my force I will allow the use of the by another lance for portion salary for time spent on repair or refit.

Go ahead and take the elite tech.  I am in agreement that it's either your's or steve's to claim.  I believe Rob has said several times no sharing techs as well.

I am fine with vet tech.  My rolls will all fail even with an elite tech anyway.

#1 Pokey - Serrate
#1 Pokey - Ice
#5 Valkyrie - Ad Hoc OR #3 Opa - Ad Hoc
#1 Pokey - Agustaaquila
#6 Ivanhoe - Timberwolfd (#1 Pokey was second choice)

Since there were no other votes for Ivanhoe, I'm counting John's vote for Pokey also, which gives it 4 votes. That should be enough for a consensus.

Other stuff collated below to help out Rob:
  • Hire Elite tech for Mike/Logan
  • Hire Veteran tech for Steve
  • Hire Andromeda Bouloukos for unit, assign to a lance
  • Randomly assign remaining 5 staff techs

Questions for the unit: Lastly, should we also consider hiring the Elite Mechwarrior? My understanding is that they're relatively rare, but I have no idea what the rarity actually is. We don't need him now, and I don't mind passing, but I wanted to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Questions for the GM:
  • How does Negotiation skill factor into buying parts & units? Does it get added as a bonus to the Scrounge check when rolling for availability? Does it reduce the cost?
  • From the step-by-step: For each +10% you are willing to pay over the base price of a part, weapon, or equipment, add +1. This doesn’t apply to ClanTech. Do you decide this before the roll, or can you add 20% to the price of what you want if you missed the TN by 2?

I agree on the mechwarrior 3/3 is good to pull in

    It doesn't.  Negotiation affects contracts.

You make the decision before the roll, like all optional modifiers.

    "I need an ERPPC ASAP"
"It's acquisition TN is XX, and I don't think I can make that roll without help."
"I'm willing to pay 30% over its cost to get it.  I'll offer to pay 390,000 CBills.  That'll add +3 to my dice roll result."

*rolls dice, adds +3 to the dice result.  Final result is XX+2, meaning a success*
*Subtracts 390,000 CB from warehouse, adds 1 ERPPC to inventory*

Ok, regarding the 10%/+1 thing, I suspected that was the case.

One of my wingman has negotiation +9. Is that irrelevant unless my PC is the CO? Is it even relevant then?

I would say no on the mechwarrior this time since we have no slots for him/her, unless the unit as a whole chooses to do so with a clear way to allocate him/her to a specific lance. Otherwise we are setting up a contention between players down the road and paying a significant salary in the mean time.

For the techs, definitely hire them and I think it is reasonable to allocate them to the lances that haven't customized yet.

The HR administration should be hired regardless. Initial assignment to the lance that gets the elite tech for customization would seem logical, but that is also a lot of favor shown to one lance, which should be noted for future unit decisions on resource allocations.

On the last unit techs to be assigned, I would like to claim one of the regulars so I can make an attempt to keep my shadow hawk functional. [If you can't tell I really hate medium mech with light mech armor...]

I think it's unlucky for us to get an elite mechwarrior on the first mission.  However, we have no mech to place the warrior in really hampers the total usefulness of the dude. I say no.

Or you could pilot an actual light mech that cannot soak a PPC to armor anywhere. :)  The shadow hawk is a fun little mech that you just have to learn to love.  Just give it time, and realize it's a great skirmishing mech.

You could also have a hunchback in a scouting lance.

Yea, let's skip the mechwarrior then.

I still vote for random assignment on the remaining techs. Starting to suspect John thinks he's the only person with a Shadow Hawk D. :-)

That mech may not have much armor, but it will do some seriously nasty work versus militia vehicles. I'm looking forward to it.

In favor of skipping the mechwarrior then seems to be the group consensus

All right, Operation POKEY it a go.  You receive 2.023 million CB in advance money.

There are 7 PCs, plus the unit.  That makes a total of 12 shares (7+5).  ON MAY 2nd, each PC will receive 168,575 CB to their warehouse.  The unit receives 842,875 CB.

The unit will lift off from Outreach on May 1st to make the contract start date.  Personnel and parts may not be acquired during the trip.

Both Techs are hired, Admin is hired.  The total cost to the unit including 1 month's salary and the hiring bonus is 74,280 Cbills.

Your "3rd Tech" assignments are done.  A new TO&E will go up Wednesday.

You could also have a hunchback in a scouting lance.

The corollary to that is what happens to any scout mech that finds itself in range of said Hunchback...
Especially when the light mech behind it gets destroyed by the flying debris and unexpended energy of the AC/20 shot that went though both sides of the light mech.
