Well today I discovered that for the past seven years I have been misreading the MASC rules in a way that makes the equipment almost entirely useless.  I honestly have no idea how I managed to do that since pretty much every single time MASC comes up in a game I'm in I end up having to check the rulebook and reread the MASC rules sections.  Apparently I have been misreading it in exactly the same way every single time for years.

It's OK.  In 2008, somebody asked Herb whether CASE failed to function on a shutdown Mech.  It was equipment, after all, and the rules say that "all equipment on a shutdown unit does not function".  The question had NEVER been asked before, and TPTB actually had to issue errata that specifically stated whether or not CASE worked in that circumstance (it does).  CASE was introduced to the game in 1989; it took nineteen years for somebody to realize that technically, CASE didn't work on a shutdown Mech.

So don't feel too bad.

I thought that after you turned the MASC on once you then had to roll a MASC check every turn for the rest of game regardless of whether or not you were using the MASC that particular turn.
