January 3054 Contract Market
« on: December 29, 2021, 05:02:25 AM »

These are...better?  I'm tired and didn't do the planetary research this time.  Sorry.  Someone might want to look into that.  Maybe some young officer wants to get better priorities for promotion and gear and steps up.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep.  Talk amongst yourselves.  LT Hartmann will chime in with thoughts once she gets out of my bed.

The only issue I see is that they all call for 14 lances minimum. We only have 12 unless our support units count for the other 2.

From an IC perspective the first round of contracts was way subpar to everything we'd seen in the history of the unit.  Nor do we know IC that there's going to be a lack of better contracts for another 3 to 4 years.

We won't be out of contract status until March 1, so if the unit wants another month worth of contracts to look at, we can.

As much as I, Hat, think Corral might be ok, Kato would have to be talked into it.  It's the Capellan March.  He has a good reputation there with those who don't think he's a traitor, so it's a very bipolar area for him and sitting on a FedCom world for 12 months doesn't give him the warm and fuzzies with all the recent history.

Legatus is 1.3g and on the ass end of space away from anything relevant. Long contract and travel times both to no place special. Planet doesnt really have anything industrial output wise to be worth sitting there so long plus who exactly is independent? Not really not worth it to me

Opal - was right about up where I was ready to suggest until I seen 10% salvage against fedcom. Had it been like 40% maybe - this one is out for me . Planet is fine otherwise , short contract possible good market

Longhorn puts us outward again against the TC. Salvage terms are nice with 100% BLC. Takes 10 jumps to get there for a short contract. May or may not be worth it. I dont see the salvage being great however. planet is fine and its an ex bio weaponed planet so who knows if there are pockets of it anywhere but it claims it should be per fluff and also a fedcom contract

Corral - d rated TC gear with elite pilots at 80% good money to just pickup and sell it maybe but thats if you get one worth anything.... pilots might be better to steal or ransom possibly if they survive ammo booms - this also puts us toward TC instead of center map or better oh and its cadre duty under fedcom contract - big thing to notice .72g with nothing else notable b rated industry - not terrible minus our allies

Avoid vulcan yet again as toxic atmo good luck to those that punch out and also .64g - also way behind wolf lines and well veteran b rated gear is nice most likely for clan stuff as prolly non omni second lines and pilots are decent - short contract but 30% may not be worth it with the potential atmo issues and 30% may get someone a mech per game. (yes this is exaggerated but how many ppl can actually repair clan stuff at moment) They have better range in most cases and breach checks may suck....

SOVNYA -  reg b vs elite a - aurigan coalition units which are more or less an unknown - im assuming standardish periphery stuff plus some random upgraded stuff if the star league stuff holds true - who knows maybe they have some royal stuff laying around still etc. I still dont like the gravity at like .7g - really not that worth it to me - MUL doesnt even have unit lists for them - My guess is they will fall under Capellan/IS general/TC units with some sparse davion designs based on location

I dont hate but I dont love any of these. The low G on most planets is workable but the chances of snapping something. Hope people bought parts. I sure did and im making sure to still get more at this point.... Im kind of up for cadre duty on abruzzi possibly see if we can get some xp and cash. Outside of that longhorn if we had to choose. Would vote to see the next but thats pushing it as is. Corral isn't terrible either

so some additions the .72 g world would give a +1 to all weapons fire short of energy weapons and you would end up getting additional movement for all movement types but you end up with a psr  - 353 becomes 464 which only gives a +0 if im reading this right to the psr for running over or jumping over - a 585 becomes 696 and still should really be a +0 as well for the psr but dont fail it because thats when stuff starts to happen to IS and actuators

the .6 world would be worse

page 55 tac ops for those curious

All, I’m traveling today, so won’t be on much if at all before tonight or tomorrow morning. Please provide your top 3 choices in order and include “wait for Feb contracts” as one of the options. If you’ve got a strong no, you can pick 1 and provide a reason.

1. Corral (Want to do a cadre)
2. Pass (Nothing else seems noteworthy)

ATB is counting your support lances, yes, since you added them to the TO&E.

You don't have to use the extra movement that low gravity grants you, it's a choice. Risk vs reward can be determined in the moment, but I don't think we should exclude a planet based on a lower gravity.

Completely agree on the atmos issues though, no thanks, good pilots are already hard enough to keep alive.

When the options aren't great, I'd almost always opt for the short commitment length:

Sovnya:    3 month travel, 3 month contract... everything else is basically fine
Kangal:     Toxic, nope.
Corral:      2 month travel, 12 month contract... everything else is fine, but not a great contract for such a long term
Longhorn: 3 month travel, 3 month contract... everything else is basically fine
Opal:        2.5 mth travel, 3 month contract... salvage 10%
Legatus:   6 month travel, 12 month contract... way too long

For me, this comes down to either Sovnya or Longhorn, nice and short, and reasonable travel times. And Longhorn has better salvage and BLC, plus we get to fight against TC!

Vote:
(1) Longhorn
(2) Sovnya
(3) Pass

I agree a gravity doesnt make or break as its your choice. Just those that do it prepare yourselves for some extra parts. That being said it does matter if it was over 1G but thats a whole other beast. The main issue is we are forced to take the extra penalties for fire in addition to weather etc. May work in our favor and may not depending on opfor.

My full vote at this point is as follows (to put in same format as others)

1) longhorn
2) corral
3) pass

Hartmann's thoughts on the matter

I think that purely based on the numbers, and discounting for a moment the planetary conditions, the best real options are LONGHORN, SOVNYA, and OPAL (sure, the salvage isn't great, but it's going to be mostly Lyran-flagged salvage and they're rolling out a ton of upgraded designs, so 10% of a large number is still meaningful).  OPAL also puts us in a much nicer area for future conflicts, and maybe gets us the chance to go bitch-slap some KungsArmé goobers around; it's not like they're actually, like, people.  Anyway, CORRAL is Cadre Duty, which would work OK if there are long-term Mech upgrades/repairs which need to be done, but it's a contract type we've mostly avoided.

However, our CO did just get himself invested as a noble by the Capellan Confederation, and they've accepted him as such while being a former Davion, no less.  Probably with all the paranoia that a "former Davion war hero being given a position of power in the CapCon" entails.  Therefore, I'd probably ignore the numbers and put SOVNYA at the top of the list for two very important reasons:

1) A successful contract for the Cappies would likely make them a bit more comfortable with him, and might even pull the Mask off of his back. It's a "hey look, I can play nice with you" sort of thing, given that the only contracts the Rangers have ever taken involving the CapCon has been against them.  And it's a short contract with a short-ish transport time, so we aren't on the hook for all that long.  Besides, what's even back in Auriguian Coalition space anyway?  They haven't been a functional state in what, 30 years?  Best case, it's a couple missions where we poke around against some pirate remnants, get an early Mission Complete since nobody's out there anyway, and head back home.

2) We're ostensibly a cavalry unit. We've spent the last several years functionally performing Planetary Defense contracts.  It'd be nice to get back to what we were supposed to be doing when the unit was formed, right?  A recon raid is just the thing to shake off our boots and get moving again during missions, instead of standing around attacking or defending a fixed point on somebody's planet.

With those things in mind, I'd put things in this order:
1) SOVNYA
2) LONGHORN
3) OPAL
3.5) CORRAL - replacing OPAL if poeple's Mechs are downchecked for some reason or another and need completion time.

Ok. Based on people’s feedback so far + Kato’s opinion I’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices.

1. SOVNYA
2. Look at February Contracts

I’m good with either, so majority rule.

After a brief discussion with Logan and Lucas, we feel that with the Role playing that has been going on that Sovnya would probably be the best choice.
