Post Contract Steps Example
« on: April 13, 2025, 05:15:39 PM »

This is intended for our new players, but it's a good reminder for everyone.

These steps are done IN ORDER.  I'm not including repairs/refits in this.  These are the mandatory steps. I'm using Fury Lance for my example since I have to do this anyway.  Primary page reference is pg 51-51 of the HM,WT ruleset.

(This will be separated into multiple posts due to dice rolls possibly having follow-up effects.)

1) Apply post-mission XP to your pilots, adjust rosters for casualties, perform medical actions as needed.

2) Adjust Unit Dragoons Rating (Unit CO only).  +5 Dragoons Rating per successful contract.

3) Prisoner Ransom and Recruitment
-Fury has 3 prisoners, Manny (4/4), Roberta Hazen (2/2), Elvira Pryde (2/1).  I'm going to attempt to recruit both the Bloodnamed Warriors.  Fury Lance has a Leadership modifier of +4, which allows me to have a maximum number of personnel of 13 total; Fury currently has 11, so this will be legal.  Manny is ransomed; as a Regular Pilot, Fury Lance gets $75,000 for him.
-Recruiting a prisoner is a 2d6 roll with a TN equal to your CHA score, with some modifiers (Fury has a -1 mod).  With an 8 CHA, I have a final TN of 7+ to recruit the prisoners, and I have 1 reroll due to having a Leadership of 3+.

Roberta Hazen TN 7
Rolled 2d6 : 1, 6, total 7

Elvira Pryde TN 7
Rolled 2d6 : 1, 6, total 7

As Elite pilots both, I'll have to pay $25,000 as a hiring bonus to each pilot I recruit.

OK, so I have to immediately pay $50,000 CB to recruit the two pilots.  If I didn't have the money, the recruits are lost.

4) Receive Final Lance Payments and Battle Loss Compensation.
-Final Payments are listed by the Unit CO in the Contract Thread (ie, Operation IKARUS August 3061-Feb 3062). You get money for any remaining months (if the contract ends 3 months early, you get 3 months worth of payments).  You might get a portion of the Transport/Transit Pay as a bonus.  Again, the Unit CO will list this.
-Battle Loss Compensation: If your unit has BLC as part of the contract, you get a percentage payout of any units which you've had destroyed.  If you have a 20% BLC and you had a Mech destroyed that has a cost of 10,000,000 Cbills, you get a payout of 2,000,000 Cbills immediately.  Note that this applies only to Mechs that are totally destroyed DURING COMBAT.  If you have a Mech shot up and decide to sell it or scrap it for parts, you don't get a BLC payout.  The BLC is paid directly to the Lance Leader, not to the unit.

5) Apply effects of Employer Rewards
-Employer Awards are listed by the GM in the Contract Thread, based on a roll modified by your Career/Soldier Skill, the final Contract Score, and any particularly notable things you may have done during the contract.  The MoS determines your award, if any.  Do remember that there are caps on the number of Mechs and personnel a lance can have; if you are awarded a Mech or person and go over the caps, you need to reduce your lance numbers to underneath the cap PRIOR to signing the next contract.  You can retire or fire pesonnel, sell spare parts, sell or scrap Mechs, and so forth.  You need to be in compliance with the caps by the time the next contract is signed, so work quickly.

6) Make Retirement Checks
Starting with the 4th contract played by YOUR LANCE, your personnel might retire or wish to move to a new job.  The older they are, the more likely this is to occur.  The only exceptions are the Lance Leader (they never retire unless you want them to), and any personnel you signed 30 days or less from the end of the contract (ie, if Fury had signed someone from the December marketplace, and the contract ended on December 14th, they don't test retirement).  This also applies to newly-recruited prisoners.  If there's a question about when someone signed on, assume they don't check retirement.

Fury's Retirement Rolls are as follows:

LT JG Daisy Taylor - 23 y/o  TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 2, total 8

Leigh Montgomery - 42 y/o TN 8
Rolled 2d6 : 4, 6, total 10

Ella Mars - 26 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 6, total 12

Morgan Fairchild - 25 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 5, 6, total 11

Natalie Watson - 28 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 4, 6, total 10

Lisa Hayes - 23 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 2, total 8

Anita Fokker - 24 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 1, 3, total 4

Annabel Sin - 26 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 5, 4, total 9

Elizabeth Turner - 24 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 4, 3, total 7

Katherine Hugs - 23 y/o TN 6
Rolled 2d6 : 3, 1, total 4

Anita Fokker and Katherine Hugs both want to retire.  Fokker is my only Elite Tech and she's Clan-trained, so I do NOT want to lose her.  I can prevent a retirement by spending cash on a retention bonus.  $20,000 CB to make the roll, and each extra $10,000 generates a -1 modifier on the roll.  Since Anita's TN is 4, I'll pay a retention bonus of $30,000 CB to gain a -1 modifier.  A natural 2 is always a failure no matter what, so paying the extra 10k has no effect.

Retention Roll, TN 3+
Rolled 2d6 : 5, 3, total 8

7) Age characters as needed
All characters age 1 year on 1 May.  Lance Leaders are responsible for tracking all Lance member ages, while the Unit CO tracks the ages of all other unit members.  See the HM,WT ruleset for aging rules.

8) Boredom
If the unit is out of a contract for long enough (month 4, and each month thereafter), all Lance Leaders have to make CHA tests.  On a failure, you make retirement rolls for 1d6 random lance members - with a +2 penalty - as unit members get bored and want to leave and look for new work.  This rarely applies, but it can be part of the post-contract process, so it's listed here.

9) Update the TO&E thread with your lance status so the Unit CO can update the TO&E.

You got the CHA backwards. The roll to pass is up to your CHA score.
"Some prisoners may be recruited by Lance Leaders.  A Lance Leader has one chance to attempt to recruit
prisoners; a failed roll means you must hold them prisoner or ransom them back.  Roll 2d6 and get equal or less than
your CHA score (the roll gains a -1 bonus for the Attractive Trait, -1 if you have Good Reputation 3+ and your prisoner is
from the area of your Good Reputation, and a -1 bonus if your SOC is 5+ and your prisoner is of the same faction as you).
A Leadership score of 3+ gains you a reroll for one prisoner per contract."

Roll passes in either case, but just a heads up, unless you intend on doing it the other way moving forward?

No; I was just juggling a phone call from Hat while typing.  No worries.
