Call of Cthulhu Halloween 1-shot
« on: September 24, 2012, 12:15:21 AM »

This post will be edited as I get stuff added to it.  Check back often.

Character Creation
Just to make sure we're all on the same page, here's the CharCreation guidelines (from the CoC 5.6 PDF [which is the 6th ed book, IIRC], pg 34):

1) 3d6 Rolls for STR, CON, POW, DEX, and APP.  2d6+6 for SIZ and INT.  3d6+3 for EDU.  SAN is POW x5.  INTt x5 for Idea; POW x5 for Luck; EDU x5 for Know.   HP are CON + SIZ, divided by 2.  You get 2 rerolls during the process that can be taken for stats, starting money, or anything else that requires a roll.  If you do not use all your rerolls, mark the number of rerolls you have remaining on your character sheet - they make be cashed in later for in-game benefits on an ad hoc basis.

2) Remember to try to hold off on forming a character concept until you see your dice results.  It's an old-school game: stats, then concept.  Sample Occupations (with their skills list) are on Page 40 of the v5.6 PDF.  Note you aren't limited to what you see there - if you want an occupation that isn't there, post it up here.

3) Make a character concept that is capable of moving in at least 1930s Middle Class society.  If you want to go High Society or among the Dispossesed, that's fine too, but make sure you can move as directed.  This isn't to say you can't "fake" your way through - Actors are not especially well-thought-of during the 1930s, but with a good Credit Rating score or high APP/INT, they can fake their way through sufficiently.  A Hobo is unlikely to be able to do so at all.

4) Your starting occupation should have 8 skills.  You gain EDUx20 percentiles to divide between those skills.  You also gain a number of percentiles equal to INTx10.  These can be put towards ANY skills (personal interests, not limited to your 8 Occupation skills).  A "professional" skill level is between 60-80%; a professional dancer at the beginning of her career should have about 60%-ish in Art: Dance, and a 20-year veteran dancer should have about 75-80% (or better).  Let that guide your choices accordingly.

5) Don't forget you can age a character to gain more EDU and Occupation skill points (10 years = +1 EDU, +20 Occu)...but going above age 40 incurs penalties to stats.  Your starting age is your EDU+6

For those of you without, here is my preferred CoC Character Sheet:

http://www.mad-irishman.net/pubs/MI_CoCCharSheet40.pdf

Please post characters up here so I can tailor the adventure hook to what we actually have.  If you want to PM me private details on your sheet, that's OK too.

I have the supplemental for the 1920, and I would like to play the architect class.  Skills: Accounting, Art, Bargain, Credit Rating, Own Language [French], library use,  persuade, psychology.

Pending approval, rest of stuff to follow later.

Architect has psychology?

No worries, it's good.  You're fine.

IMPORTANT RULE CHANGES!!!

-All investigators may add +100 bonus percentiles to divide between their Occupational Skills.

-There is a skill CAP of 85%; skills may not be increased above this number during character creation.

-Players may CHOOSE to add up to 15% to their Cthulhu Mythos Skill (which may never be an Occupational Skill), but must have an Occult Skill rating of double their Mythos score (or more); the Chulhu Mythos skill decreases your maximum SAN score as normal.
