Background Reading
« on: July 17, 2013, 09:50:46 PM »

For those interested, Randall Bill's "Fall From Glory" starts with the Exodus fleet at New Samarkand in the DC Nov 5, 2784 and goes through New Years Eve 2794.  For those unfamiliar "Fall From Glory" it is the English version of the first book in the founding of the Clans series written by Bills.  It and the second book were published in German and the original English version was published on Battlecorps some time ago.  I don't have a current subscription, so not sure if it's accessible there still or not.  The second book in English has not been released to the best of my knowledge.

Perhaps this is all well known to the folks here, but thought it might prove useful reading or rereading unless Steve plans to play through those sections.

Hey, are we going to go through the pentagon wars as well as any battles that may have happened there before hand?

Wow, thanks for that info. I was unaware those novels were available in English.

Looking at the timeline, Nicolas' Exodus to Strana Mechty occurred the same year (2801) as the Exodus Civil War started.  I would expect that there could be battles covering a number of months, but less than a year.  It would depend on how Steve wants to run it.  There arguably were trials of position for the 800 slots in the Clans, so battles can certainly be done as part of the evaluation process prior to the official Clan founding and Operation Klondike.

For the novels, as I mentioned there's just the one in English (Fall From Glory), the other is only in German.  Fall From Glory also isn't available in print form, it was only ever released in electronic form in BattleCorps.

I see so basically we are not partaking in the exodus civil war because were part of the second exodus so we will later come back during pentagon wars and take the pentagon worlds most likely?

Again up to Steve.  You can fit a lot of battles within a week or a few months, so could easily be a chunk of the campaign as the 146th and 149th I think work to evacuate friendly units and civilians as part of that 2nd Exodus.

For those curious, I went back through to see how many characters were potential contemporaries of those in the AR campaign.  Yamamori is 75 as Klondike starts.  There are 4 confirmed individuals his age or older with another 1 likely older (Nathan Faraday) and two others possible (Daniel Mattlov, Lisa Buhallin).  The following individuals though actually fought at least at some point during the Amaris Civil War.

Blood Spirit - Khan Colleen Schmitt, fought in the Terran Resistance (Age 66 at start of Klondike)
Burrock - Herve and Nigel Polczyk, former RWR troops (Twins Age 68 at start of Klondike)
Cloud Cobra - Khan Windham Khatib, founder, previously Captain and one of the few surviving members of the 335th Battlemech Division (Age 65 at start of Klondike)
Fire Mandril - Captain Nathan Faraday, served with the SLDF, was one of the 800 and served 4 Khans
Goliath Scorpion - 1st Khan Cyrus Elam, former SLDF Corps of Engineers (Age 71 at start of Klondike)
Hell's Horses - 1st Khan John Fletcher C.O. of the 35th SLDF Infantry Division (Age 76 at start of Klondike)
Ice Hellion - 1st Khan, Stephan Cage previously 3rd Battalion Commander SLDF 200th Dragoon Regiment (Age 66 at start of Klondike)
Jade Falcons - 1st Khan Elizabeth Hazen, spent more than a decade in the SLDF before retiring and then going on the Exodus, (Age 80 at start of Klondike) Daniel Mattlov Ace Pilot in the SLDF who served during the Amarais Civil War, Lisa Buhallin - fought a guerilla campaign on Terra up to and including it's liberation
Nova Cats - 1st Khan Phillip Drummond, Major in the RWR, 832nd Amaris Dragoons pre-Coup, then surrendered and joined the SLDF and fought in the Amaris Civil War (Age 75 at start of Klondike)
Snow Ravens - 1st Khan Stephen McKenna, SLDF Admiral who fought in the Amaris Civil War (Age 76 at start of Klondike)
Star Adder - 1st Khan Absalom Truscott, SLDF 'Mech commander involved in the liberation of Moscow, (Age 65 at start of Klondike)
Wolf - 1st Khan Jerome Winson - Fought in the war against the Rims World Republic and served on General Kerensky's staff (Age 66 at start of Klondike)

Steve has already said that if people want to take their characters forward, they can.  Canon says there are at least 4 Khans between the ages of 71 and 80.  Everyone had to test to qualify.  There were probably at least a few more in the 800 to qualify as well.  There was limited combat exposure between the Exodus' arrival in the Pentagon Worlds and Klondike, at least for those who went on the 2nd Exodus.  Aleksandr Kerensky died at age 100, and was pretty vigorous until his wife died in 2796 when he was age 96.  There is precedent for older characters, part of it just becomes a question of how plausible.  It is fair to say though that newly created characters should be of younger age.

Based on listed backgrounds, Steve Hanney would be ~87, Natalie Smythe could be between 76 and 81, Gerald Freund would be 96, Duncan Reed would be 83, Todd Marshall could be as young as 76, though likely a few years older.  There isn't any information on Callahan, Hawker, Banzai or Schwepps, though it's fairly safe to assume they were likely all at least 22 when the campaign started in '65, which would have them at least 78, but not necessarily older than that.

You forgot the most interesting bits of Liz Hazen.  Member of Royal Black Watch.  Survived the 12 years on Earth in the resistance during the coupe.  Led forces capturing Prinz Eugen.  1st mech to fall into trap in Cathay Rebellion [precursor to Dechavilier Massacre] and killed over 20 rebels hand-to-hand with a sword.
