April 14 game logistic post - EVERYONE READ
« on: April 09, 2018, 09:46:50 PM »

This game will be on the UC Campus.

WE ARE IN:
Baldwin 760 (1 floor up on left side from main entry, door will be on your right)
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/39.1330529,-84.51676

PARKING INFO
Nearest UC parking
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/39.1348392,-84.5151651

Nearest metered parking (4 hour max, 9AM-6PM, can be renewed remotely through Cincy EZPark app)
Mind the fire hydrants, the parking officers love to ding people who park in front of a hydrant.

Nearest Free Parking is on Probasco St.
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/39.1344706,-84.5212409

ARRIVAL
Please arrive on location between 9am and 9:30.  I'd like to start playing no later than 10am SHARP.  This is necessary because we have about half the group who needs to leave by ~4:30, which means to have any meaningful result we need to start early, given the game size.

STOP TIME
Depending on the state of the game, we will either stop at 4:30 when Ad Hoc & Co. have to leave, or 5:30.  The game will go no later than 5:30 in any case.

LUNCH
I would really like to NOT have to take a lunch break, again due to the game size, and thusly would prefer to order delivery.  Please discuss this in the comments below.  I'll personally start the pot with $10 for a pizza order from Dominos.

*There are other events on campus Saturday that may limit parking (particularly on our side of campus). I strongly recommend parking in the Woodside garage, the 2nd level has a level/rollable ramp to the front of the Engineering Research Center*

A pizza order sounds good to me. Are we allowed to have beer at the location?

I'm not qualified to answer that question.

I'm also in a firm believer in asking for forgiveness rather than permission.

With Hat's little(r) ones present, the answer to beer is a firm no. I could have gotten a permit, if this came up earlier. (Maybe)

Also, with other events on campus, there would be zero forgiveness.

Treating alcohol like a taboo, that can't be responsibly indulged in while in the presence of those who aren't yet old enough to partake, is what contributes to a society where kids grow up to be bingers and alcoholics. At least, that's how I feel, with absolutely no actual research to base that on.  :P

But ok, no problem, just thought I'd ask. Being a part of the x-wing community, I am rather jealous of all the giant game stores around the country that actually serve alcohol and food. Let's face it, we mostly play "beer-and-pretzels" games, but for some reason around here it's pretzels only.  (^_^)b

I understand the sentiment, but the university administration has their point of view and something something college students something something big mess something something need permit, etc.

As I noted, if this had come up earlier, I could have inquired into alcohol permits. They can be gotten, and some student groups do so regularly. They just can't be gotten in 12 hours and generally require alcohol be served in an area where minors are not allowed.

Also, technically we aren't supposed to have food in the room (a rule everyone breaks regularly). So we are already in an ask forgiveness situation.

The sentiment was mostly tongue-in-cheek, and I 100% agree. If permits are required, it's potentially something to add to the to-do list for next time.  ;D

I would that it were so. The next UC event will be in TUC, where the event services people have their offices. In order to legally have beer, I would have to have the event catered. They will be cross with me for us having food that wasn't catered (go F*** yourself...), but since I will not be providing the food, everyone ordering their own or going to the restaurants downstairs does not violate the strict letter of the rental agreement.

This has been way more involved than it had any right to be... Practically need to be a lawyer.  :-\

This is why I fondly remember my years in the law school.  The student leadership group always had at least one open keg at all times, along with other stuff constantly available.

That said, as election commisioner my offical duties included getting permission from the UC fuck officer who oversaw before I got my first drink.  Also, so you can follow UC politics, the officer often was drunk before I was and the law school is a favored program.
