For whatever it's worth, the OPFOR Mechs will be randomly generated after you've selected what you're driving.  IIRC, they skew low on this one; if you choose a medium, most OPFOR will be lights**.  Cache 1 makes them even with the Mech category you select, and Cache 2 makes them skew higher.

**It may also work like "what you choose, they'll average 10-20 tons lighter" instead of going with weight brackets.  I don't recall offhand.

There is the problem of it not being able to skew weight much lower than 20 tons, though.  Running into a ProtoMech point would be a whole different thing.

From where I see it right now, the locust might still be my best bet.  The ext, while a terrifying heavy, doesn't have pulse.  A good TMM might be the best avaliable option considering the opfor P/G.

If I go with a mech besides the locust, It would be thr -3M wolvie, which also isn't overly impressive by itself.

I know I have a reputation for crazy, and choosing the locust is right up my alley.  Someone want to try and talk me out of it?

With moonless night I would focus on melee and just let them shoot at me at +4 (iirc). Is you wolverine pilot at all melee build? A 10-20 ton advantage with a mobile unit would be a significant edge. A kick or two would take out most legs.

I'd take the Wolvie. Take pot shots when you lose init, and kick off legs when you win. Also, taking the heaviest medium mech works in your favor, since it sounds like Light wingmen will get generated. Based on the past couple missions, at least a couple of those will be Stingers/Wasps.

OK, after thinking it over I bid Katherine Haden  with the -3M wolvie.  Keep weather and light as is.

OK, your Wolverine is locked in (pilot is not, note).  Your OPFOR is as follows:

Ingrid (4/3): CRB-27sl Crab (Searchlight, Torso-Mounted)
Safaa (3/3): FFL-4C Firefly
Patricia (3/6): MCY-99 Mercury (Hand-held Searchlight)

You can still choose to take rerolls if you see fit.  Also, just in case I don't end up being the one to play you, it should be clear that all mechs you face in this scenario, regardless of the actual mini, are painted in solid white with no insignia.

That Firefly must have come out of the cache as well. The legs will need 21 to knock off, but the rear torsos are beyond paper thin with an XL engine. The 3x MPlas will hurt.

Mercury is a one kick wonder at 10 to knock off a leg and minimal weapons.

That Crab is going to be a problem... Definitely a mech to get behind and rear torso. ::eek::

Looking at it, this will be an evil game. Your Wolverine is out jumped by the Exterminator, thankfully that tech is a 6 pilot...
The moonless night movement penalties and urban terrain will go a long way toward neutralizing the Mercury and Crab, making it even more important to whack that Firefly quickly (Hopefully it isn't piloted by Mal).

NPC Techs don't seek offensive action in Cache games.  Their goal is to preserve the salvaged unit.  They only shoot if fire is declared against them or you're adjacent to them, and can't flee off the board except in very specific circumstances.

Wonderful, are you serious with Blakist being on the planet?  This just got more, well evil.

I didn't say Blakist.  I said white paint with no insignia.

Also, delete the reference to a torso-mounted searchlight off of the Crab.  I'd forgotten that they take up mass if they aren't hand-held.  Apologies for the confusion.
