I can respond to some things. To post to Camospecs.com you do have to be an artist. Also, our site is not available to be posted to and we are actively working on getting a new site up and running. (Time and money). Joining Camospecs doesn't mean that you have to paint for projects. Our thought is that if you don't want to paint for some projects, why would you try to join. We are not looking for someone that just wants the title. We don't have to buy our own minis, I have always been reimbursed with minis if I use my own. I have went to IWM and bought minis to get a head start but was sent minis from IWM to make up for what I used. Our grading is done by our artists. You submit your pictures and we critique your work. Not only are we looking at the painting but the pictures have to be in focus and the background is also critiqued. Dealing with the members of Camospecs is no problem at all. Everyone works together and gets the work out that needs to be done. Ray just gives us what the company is wanting and we work it out amongst ourselves.
3-D minis have been done but not posted to Camospecs. They were done to peak interest in some of the new models. I personally got to paint one at Gencon a few years back. They are done by a sculptor that CGL hired. I personally don't like the 3-D's, too rough. With a little love you can make them look good. I have also painted some greens from IWM.
I would encourage anyone to try for Camospecs if you feel that you can put some paint on minis as good as they can. Just don't submit if all you are looking for is to be known as a Camospec artist.
