Interstellar Operations PDF is out
« on: July 24, 2015, 02:01:51 PM »

At least, the beta version, and some softback copies at GenCon.

Steve, heads-up.  LAMs got CHANGED.  Specifically while in AirMech mode:

1) They no longer get a TMM when shot at.  They gain an automatic +1, plus use ASF-style angle of attack modifiers (+1/+2/+0), and have the option to use ASF-style Evasive movement (+3 to be hit, +3 to hit).
2) They use their own table to determine AMM when shooting.  Using AirMech Cruise MP is a +3, using AirMech Flank MP is a +4.

Oh, and you're the guy in the example text.  Congrats.

Only seen the warhammer so far, but it looks really really good.  Shimmy did a good job.

Check out "Combat Manual : Mercenaries", it has Warhammer, Griffin, Marauder and maybe a P-Hawk.

Just ordered the PDF.  Wow, those 2 changes are DEVASTATING.  :o :o :o :o :o :o  I can almost see it for treating them more like fighters, but dang,  there are some high speed vtol's that are still going to have the +5 TMM modifier and will fire at flank speed at +2 !!!

I thought the airmech cruise at +2 and flank +3 was the right way to go.  But, OMG, flank +4 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeez

They haven't changed that from the quick-start rules and they printed that before we did all of that play-testing in your campaign.  I was hoping that you and I would get some mention in the play-test section of the credits.  No such luck there.  :(

As a totally unsubstantiated rumor, the goal became to make LAMs bad enough that nobody would bother to bug TPTB about them again.

...yeah...

If true..@#$%^*&$%*&^%^(*&%^&*...I can't say what I think here.  And here I thought we were trying to find the right balance.

...I can't say what I think here.

Why on earth would you think that?  We damn well OWN this board.  Nobody's banning anybody for dropping justified bad language when appropriate.  You want to rail on Catalyst, you go right ahead.

I don't want to jump to conclusions.  I don't want to go off half-cocked and say something that I will regret later.  I have done that enough.

That being said, IF and I mean IF that unsubstantiated rumor is true, then it would have been much better and intellectually honest if TPTB had just said, "Okay, there are now no more LAM's, end of story."  Going back door and purposefully changing the rules for the worse, ranks right up with "Chicago Style Politics" as some of the slimiest things that I have ever seen.

If it is not true, I am tempted to corral Randle at Gencon and ask him WTF?  I would like to see all of the other play-testing evidence [other than what we did] that made them jump to the incredibly stupid decision that they have made.

I think that this will affect IWM sales of the brand new LAM mini's for which we have been waiting for over 2 years!  I was planning to purchase the entire set right after Gencon.  Now, I am not so sure.

Of course, in our own games, we are free to use whatever rules that we see fit.  However, it was nice to know that we were able to maintain canon rules and situations as much as possible.

There, Rob.  How was that?

I really dislike that first change.  It seems like an excessive nerf and using the Aerospace getting shot at rules for a unit that moves on ground mapsheets and that doesn't expend thrust points just seems needlessly confusing.

Well, since this is the Beta Test, there may be some time to try to convince TPTB to change a few things back.

WOW, it looks like Battletech is on the move once again! Awesome stuff.

Here I thought I just needed to find funds for Wave 7 of X-wing, and now it turns out there's very cool BT stuff to buy. Sadly, I'll miss out on the IO Beta soft-copy, since I'll be in the Xwing tourney starting at 9:00 am on Thursday. If someone else has a chance to buy a copy for me, I'll have the cash in my pocket.  :D

And those new un-re-whatever-seens... fantastic work!

Seems everyone is calling them the "Classics". Appears that all the unseen will be redone along with the Ost's. Novel's will be coming out.

Are there any pictures available for the redesigned unseen?  I realize this is an old thread.  Trying to get back to BT.  September's out as it's always a bad month, but hoping to make the October game when it's picked.

With a sweep of his...
