ive run into a small issue on my character

he received promotion 2 to start out then made it to ocs training got commission 1 then got a promotion later to rank 6 then an additional promotion 2

how does this work at this point

do I technically have 10 promotion plus the commission?

Once you recieve Commission, it negates any promotions you received up to that point.  Any further promotions from that point forward are applied to "officer" promotions.

So, in order:
Promotion 2 - gives Enlisted Rank 2
Commission - lose enlisted rank entirely; gain Officer Rank 1
Promotion 2 - increase Officer Rank by 2 to Rank 3 (total).
(remember that Traits cannot go past their natural limit; Rank is capped at 10, so if you somehow got Promotion (4) three times, you'd be Rank 10, not 12).

Also, remember, since you're a merc at the beginning of game, that you'll lose any accrued Rank you have.  Having been a Colonel in the AFFS doesn't help you after you separate and become a merc.  It's important to track because when you're dealing with your old faction, if you left on good terms, a high rank means you can get stuff a little easier (ie, the Colonel in the AFFS can leverage their old rank to maybe get spare parts a touch easier when serving in FedSuns space).

Rank in the *merc unit* will be set by group consensus after we have more PCs generated.

Can one person take multiple enemies at 1 each? I noticed that rob has two enemy 1 in his thread so wasn't sure if it would be counted as 1,1 or 2 over all?

Would this also be the same for dependents?

You have the option to either add the enemies together, or to take multiple enemies.  It's your call.  Essentially, an enemy will fark with you if you're within 1 jump of their position, +1 jump per point of enemy.  So an Enemy 3 on Capella will fark with you (making it harder to get equipment) if you're within 3 jumps of Capella.  An Enemy 1 will fark with you if you're within 1 jump of them, but multiple enemies have to be from different planets.  I'll have an enemy on Canopus (because I picked up the enemy in Stage 1 when my PC was in the MOC), and an enemy on St. Ives because I picked up the enemy during the academy.

When you get to a new campaign mission world, you'll be notified if your enemy is making trouble.

Dependents will basically just cost you money (750 Cb/month per dependent; each point of Dependent is another individual person, so a Wife and Kid is 2 points) and will add to the unit's total transportation requirement.  However, there ARE Base Defense missions where your dependents can appear as battlefield units and can possibly get killed, which gives a month-long +2 penalty to either piloting or gunnery (random).

EDIT: Sorry, misremembered.  It's a 30-day +2 penalty.

If your dependents get killed.

Try not to let that happen.

Also for the enemy I determine a planet or realm?

A planet that is their "base", as I intimated in my example.

Which is why I crossed it out. Added it without thinking all the way through what was read.

For the well connected trait it states can make scrounge, protocol or streetwise (for my character I would have had a much easier time with protocol instead of scrounge).
If this is the case im assuming that we are going strictly scrounge at this point?--- are we using the book rule or strictly the one per the rule thread or both?

Also for wealth it states 20kxpoint of wealth (rule pdf says upon contract completion while with robs I noticed his wording is for upkeep each month) + bonus 25k cbill to start  is the bonus going to apply or are we going solely on at end of contract or end of month per answer to first part of this question. Same issue I guess are we going directly off the rule thread or the rule per the book or both for each of these?

Im assuming were going off the rule thread for simplicity but want to confirm. I will leave both bonus' on until I get confirmation.

Rob, last night I had a problem with the forum die roller.  I had put in the roller for my white collar event.  It rolled a 3.  I thought to myself #$%^&*().  So I typed in the additional roller and hit preview and it rolled 12.  I thought yahoo. So I typed in some more and hit preview to catch any spelling etc and I noticed that the numbers had re-rolled.  What should I do?

Steve (can't quote on mobile), the preview feature has no relation to the roll made when you post.  Otherwise you'd be able to see your roll before it was finalized.

Rob, I believe that is my point.  I saw the roll in the preview before I posted it.  I added additional text and when I previewed again, the roll changed.  All before I posted.  Because of this error, I went back and deleted the roll [which had changed for the original roll].

Rob, in the rules regarding spending Trait points for raising attributes, you've got the following:

Quote
Raising an Attribute from 2 costs 1 point per point, up to that
Attribute’s Final Threshold Value.

-italics mine

This makes it sounds as though your first 2 points in the attribute are free, however the RPG rules indicate that each point of attribute costs you (p. 56). I just wanted to be clear on that before I worked out my final numbers. Which is it?

Also, regarding BV values. Are those calculated as base, or at the actual BV of the unit with the correct G/P scores?

Thanks!

That's a typo.  In the Character Creation example, each purchase is done correctly:

"Characters get 50 points to buy attributes.  You can “sell back” unwanted positive traits (or take on negative ones), but under circumstances that sometimes count only for half benefit.  Here, I’ll sell back 3 points of Vehicle, 4 points of Well-equipped, 2 points of Promotion, 1 point of Good Reputation.  Vehicle and Good Rep only count for half benefit.  This gives me a final modified total of 58 points. Keeping I mind my minimum scores, I’ll set my STR to 4 (4 points). Set BODY to 5 (5 points total). Set CHA to 7 (9 points). Set SOC to 4 (4 points). Set WIL to 5 (5 points). Set EDG to 3 (3 points). Set DEX to 7 (9 points). Set RFL to 7 (7 points). Set INT to 7 (7 points). 5 points remaining."

Base values.  It's too difficult to try and balance the unit creation system otherwise.  The computer will do it automatically when creating OPFOR once play begins.
