Operation THEMYSCIRA Mission 5
« on: October 16, 2017, 12:13:13 AM »

Before making any decisions, we need to look at RSVPs for the November game, AND the state of everyone's lances on 3 April, 3045.

Fairchild Lance can bring the following to the battle on 3 April:

Marauder, Crusader, Rifleman, Vindicator

(all combat-ready on 3/25)

Kong Lance is in reserve and unavailable for deployement or reinforcement duties.

As per LT Wilhelm's request, Reaper Lance is reassigned to Training and is unavailable for deployement or reinforcement duties.

Bright Lance will be unavailable for deployement or reinforcement duties (their family can't make the November or December games).

.
.
.
.

This leaves Fairchild, Ice, Crusher, and Dancer Lances available as reinforcements, barring Lance Commanders down-checking their own commands as the result of combat damage.

1. I assume this will be on a 2x1 map set (?).

2. Wooded lake would seem to be an interesting challenge for this board size with existing maps... Are we talking Mountain Lake/Large Lakes or the standard battletech map lake (pond)?

3. What are the withdrawal rules for the FWL forces? Do they need to retreat off of the South/West edges or will any edge work?

4. Are there any other temperature effects in play? Moderate Snowfall includes -50 degrees C which has temperature based impacts on the units that could be more extreme if background temps are lower.
(Dang the moderate snowfall entry on the original printing of TacOps is in need of errata with extreme prejudice due to copy/paste errors)
Net effects of Moderate Snowfall: +1 to all weapon attacks, thin snow on turn 10 and deep snow on turn 20
Mechs: -2 heat per turn
Vehicles: -2 cruise MP, recalculate flank speed
Thin Snow: Wheeled vehicles require +1 MP per hex and +1 driving skill rolls, infernos can turn the hex to mud with a bog down chance
Deep Snow: All units require +1 MP per hex with +1 PSR/DSR, mechs with leg mounted heat sinks dissipate up to 3 more heat per turn, mudded by infernos

5. This time I am going to take that &@^% Wolverine down.

The general plan is to call in Ice, Crusher and Dancer (Fairchild has been heavily deployed)
Map size may/will be re-rolled pending answers on 1-3.
The Vedettes and Scorpion/Prowler will be slowed to 3/5 and 2/3 respectively, making their attack/escape... sluggish.
The Plainsman will slow to 7/11, with rather less impact than the slower tracked and wheeled vehicles. But, the Plainsman can't enter woods...

Currently, barring rerolls, yes.

2. Wooded lake would seem to be an interesting challenge for this board size with existing maps... Are we talking Mountain Lake/Large Lakes or the standard battletech map lake (pond)?

Mountain Lake/Large Lakes, along with stuff like Coastline (edge of a BIG lake), and River Delta.  This is not an exclusive list.

3. What are the withdrawal rules for the FWL forces? Do they need to retreat off of the South/West edges or will any edge work?

Currently they can withdrawal off the West or South edges, at a mininum.  This is also dependent on the reroll results.

4. Are there any other temperature effects in play? Moderate Snowfall includes -50 degrees C which has temperature based impacts on the units that could be more extreme if background temps are lower.

Moderate Snowfall auto-includes -50C and accompanying temperature effects, plus the accumulation rules.  AFAIK, that's all at this time.

You're on a 30x30 map.  So 2x2 sheets.

3 rolls left.

Just to be 100% clear; you're willing to blow all three rerolls?

Yes, though I won't cry if you get it in one.
I like moderate snowfall for slowing down the vehicles and providing the flat +1 on weapon attacks.
We already have daylight, though rerolling light is an option.
Woods to block LOS and provide cover to close are good.
The wooded-lake is possibly subject to reroll.
But size is the biggest problem, the map NEEDS to be big enough to prevent easy/quick withdrawal.

Yes, though I won't cry if you get it in one.

You have a 45x25 map, which is 2x3.  You have 0 rerolls remaining.

Make sure you double-check with all of those commanders that they want to be deployed on this mission.  IIRC, Ice and Crusher *may* be down at least 1 unit, depending on how well repairs/replacements have gone by H-hour.

Looking at the various repair threads, Ice and Dancer appear fully operational. Crusher is the wildcard. The Centurion lost his head and the Shadow Hawk was smoking rubble, so repairs could still be ongoing, particularly if parts needed to be ordered. Depending on Crusher's status, Fairchild lance may be called in instead.
