Engine Ratings
« on: November 19, 2017, 12:26:22 PM »

So with the price of the engine varying based on tonnage of mech, would that mean the engine is limited to the tonnage of that specific size?
So for example, if I wanted to take a 300 rated engine off a 75 ton mech, could i potentially put it on any other mech size that can feasibly use that engine rating? (20, 25, 30, 50, or 100)

Engines do have mech weight as part of the calculations in creation and use, so you could place the removed engine in any 75 ton mech.

New question that kinda fits into this. Lets say I want to sell my engine in the cicada to be able to buy an engine that is smaller for the same weight class, Can I do the sale of the engine early then try and roll for a smaller engine to replace it.
My Cicada has a 320 std engine and I want to lower it down to a 280, but I do not have the C-bills to buy the 280 outright at this time.

I would say you could remove the engine and sell it, but time isn't your friend if you want to do the work in a factory.

Once you take something out of the mech you can sell it.  However, your mech will sit there without an engine in it.  It will take 3 weeks for the engine to arrive once you roll for it.

Remember that with class E and F refits they must be done at factories.  Practiclly this means you will need the time to remove engine, + 3 weeks, +time to place new engine in mech in order for the refit to work.  Also hope you don't fail and get double time, or gods forbid roll a 2 and gain a negative quark.

That's what I thought. I have been trying to either make my cicada better or get a better medium. I don't want to spend too much in c bills and screw myself early on.

Luckily changing engine rating is only a D class refit and could be done on the dropship.

Dude, this is a Class D refit:

Pull 280 SFE
Pull RA Medium Laser
Pull LA Medium Laser
Install 210 SFE with integrated DHS
Install 7 Jump Jets
Add x1 Medium Pulse Laser in each arm
Add 2 tons armor
(Keep the flamer, because Infantry *is* still a thing and they don't like fire very much)

Yeah, either is a possibility.  If he had pilots with Jumping Jack or Wpn Spec, the MLs would be a better choice.  But for a standard Veteran Pilot, the MPLs are going to mean you hit more often while jumping.  And nothing stops him from pulling the MPLs later on once the Cicada pilot has XP and putting quad MLs in their place.

EDIT: Or, hell, once he's gotten some money, buy a 210XL engine and with the 8 tons that frees up put 2 more MPLs in each arm.  7/11/7 with x6 MPLs.
