Does any one have any idea where we are in Canada? How far are we from the US? What major city and how far are we from it?

Well, we are a little east of 53.180061,-120.333767 (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl).  This puts us equidiatance from both Vancouver and Calgary, at about 350 miles.  Edmonton is ~ 300 miles east.  This of course changes as we move east, as per our plan.

The reason I was asking, is that both cities have routes that have some cover. Calgary, we could go through foothills of the Rockies and come out just north of the city and make a dash for the spaceport. It resides on the north of the city, on the edge of population. We would not have to enter the city. Edmonton has what looks like lots of trees on the way to there. The problem I see with Edmonton, is that the spaceport is in the city. It could be a fight in the city to get there. Not my cup of tea. Much prefer to stay in the countryside vs. entering a city. Both are about equadistance. Just some thoughts.

i agree with phlop :) we should avoid city fighting to many veh mechs and infantry get real dangerous in city fighting also placed skidding rules in affect i believe because of roads. as much as there would be lots of cover in the city because of tallers buildings and such but we would be pretty hurt if a bunch of hetzers hunchbacks are inferno infantry are right around a corner....not sure if inferno rounds were around yet but just the general idea of that stuff hitting my mech and frying me doesnt sit to well for me :)

From the IC thread

1830 hours
53.180061,-120.333767

Taking the TO&E on the noteputer from you, Major Stastny motions you to follow him into the comms truck.  It's a tight squeeze with all the gear, but you manage, hoping against hope that your MRE don't make that moment to make their sulphurous tendencies known.

"Ladies, Gentlemen...the way I see it, our only possible objective is to get the hell offworld.  Resistance to whatever the hell's happening is essentially finished at the organized level; there's been almost no communication on the PDF nets for the last six hours, and that means there's nobody left to communicate.  To get offworld, we're going to have to do several things - almost all of them impossible and all of them have to go right for us to have a hope in hell of getting out of here."  He pauses and takes a sip of what must be ice-cold coffee, makes a face, and continues.

"First, we're going to have to pick a target starport.  We're getting nowhere without a DropShip.  There's only two good choices, discounting the Star League Court 'port near Vancouver.  First is Salt Lake City.  Best route is going to be south along the Rockies.  It'll be tough going, but we'll be under more cover the whole way due to the rougher terrain and weather patterns.  It'll also be tougher on the equipment; we're likely to lose stuff to breakdowns (especially the fighters what with the mountain winds), and there's less in the way of supply depots once we cross south of Missoula.  Second choice is to head east toward Winnipeg; there's a major air station there with a whole lot of jets and a small starport.  It's a lot more open terrain than heading south, which makes us easier to find, but it'll be a faster travel time too.  There's a few more supply depots as well, and a better chance of continuing on past our target to find OTHER starports if necessary...but we'll have to get across a LOT of open terrain first.  Both targets are more or less equidistant; I calculate a travel time to either of about two weeks, allowing for operations and some salvaging.  So...first choice is the target.

"Next major choice is how we get there.  Both directions have garrison stations and supply depots within 300km of here.  Regardless of which target we ultimately select, we'll need to hit both the depot and the garrison stations to make it through; the garrison for obvious reasons, and the supply depot so we have something to fight with and fuel to get to our chosen port.  So, second choice is what to hit along which route first.

(OOC Note: all of your PCs are aware that these garrison stations will be roughly 2 companies out of a battalion in strength in Mech forces and may have up to a squadron of ASFs, and a company or so of infantry.  Supply Depots will generally have a company of Mechs (the 3rd company from the battalion, above), up to a squadron of ASFs, 2-3 companies of infantry, and a company or so of armor.)

"Captain, you're the tactician.  Which route do you prefer, and what target order makes the most sense to you?  You're the shooter here, so call the shot."

We escaped the betrayal to the NW.  I guess it's on to Winipeg as previously discussed.  Sorry, I can't find where I thought the Black Watch bought it.  I thought it was Vancouver.  I am more than likely WRONG.  I looked again in my books and could only come up with a paragraph in Field Manual: Comstar that The RBW was nuked in Gorst Flats. (I don't know where that is)

I found a great site that lets you plot Lat/Long points.  http://itouchmap.com/

im guessing that if we had went to vancouver we wouldve been cut off and probably been nuked or did that happen at the start of the coup? Also im guessing it would be faster to hit edmonton and head toward winipeg do we have any idea of what is along both those routes such as mech depots supply depots etc.?

In our timeline (28 Dec), I don't think the RBW has been nuked yet.  FM:C* says the Camerons were murdered yesterday (27th).  We were betrayed on Xmas.  Things are happening fast but I don't think that fast yet.....

Of course, none of this could be true.  Cameron himself could have ordered the RWR troops to kill us to finish sweeping us under the rug.  There has never been any hint that this was cannon.  Quasi-cannon, but we could have lost against the Taurians.  So it comes down to how much of a ***************** you think Rob could be.

Also, Bryan, not any real time pressure but what intel do you want out of our captives?

what was the date of the nuking? :) However even with it being 2 days someone said all formed resistance has been neutralized that means even if we get into the spaceport we have to hold the spaceport right? So doesnt that pose a possibility we will get nuked as well SIGH.... lol  Also when we get to the spaceport what happens if there is not a dropship? we just gonna steal the nearest shuttles and hope they dont shoot us down? In the event there is not a dropship are we gonna make contact with one of our dropships or units off planet? IS that even possible as well? I mean a spaceport should have the comms equipment needed to do so but again that may make us a nuke target as well if they find out we are about a what size element of SLDF still in force? What is the possibility of them using a nuke on us? Also what happens if there is a dropship there and its weapons are in fact active? Also what we faced was that about a standard size garrison? Or can we expect more or lots more?

Theoretically (in a perfect world) even if there isn't a dropship grounded we can get a message out via HPG for SLDF to extract us.  This is not Plan A, B or C.

I'm all for skirting the foothills, forests are flammable and we'll show up on satellite overflights worse than screened in mountains.

Canonically speaking, the Royal Black Watch Regiment was nuked on December 27th, 2766 near Unity City in the Puget Sound area of Washington within minutes of Amaris's murder of Richard Cameron.  That of course doesn't mean this happened in our campaign.
